Potential Down Senior Players

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Clearly the Kilcoo blinkers are on there. McComiskey has shown his ability at county level, scoring the equalising point in Omagh on his debut and performing consistently thereafter. He hasn't needed a second chance to impress, it only took him one go. He won a sigerson in his fresher year too while he was playing at a 'low' level for Dundrum. Seriously, think before you post stuff like that. Its good you support your own player but try to be as objective as possible when posting.

I hear that Bredagh have a very good prospect in Owen Costello. Apparently he has been playing some good football and even though Bredagh are playing in Division 3 this should not exclude him from playing County football. Conor Counihan played a number of players from lower division clubs and got to the All Ireland final. Lets hope the new management team look beyond Division 1 and 2 clubs.

icantshoot- i have no kilcoo bias, dont live anywhere near there or know many folk from there. i do attend a lot of games through the year and laverty has been the most consistent forward i have seen this year. as far as Paul McCommiskey, he has yet to prove himself on the big stage, he has been ok at best, he is inconsistent and was terrible against fermanagh in the championship.

F.T.Q - I don't really want to get into a whole big thing but for you to say McComiskey has yet to prove himself on the big stage, how about in Croke Park in the All Ireland Minor Final? Or the Sigerson Final? Seriously, there are other 'big stages' than senior championship. He has proven he has the temperament and ability to play senior county football. Were there any Down players who played a good game against Fermanagh?
Enough about him, at what point has Laverty proved himself on the 'big stage'? This seems to be your argument for having him in instead of McComiskey, but I hope for your sake you have other reasons otherwise maybe you should take some time away from GAA forums and actually watch some GAA, see what its all about.
Would be good to see a few Kilcoo boys get a shot though, they might just give the spice boy brigade enough of a rattle to get them playing football again.

icantshoot- dont be a tube you are getting personal becauce someone disagrees with you. my argument is very clearly stated in a previous post. laverty has been the most consistent forward in county down football this year, therefore i think he deserves a shot at the county again. is that clear for you now son?

i know Gareth Johnston quite well and i think he could do a job at full back!!!!He mighten be the strongest but he is tall and has good hands!!!i seen him play a couple of times this year with Tullylish in midfield and he looked really good!!

An Riocht-Marty Clarke, John Clarke, James Colgan
Annaclone-Gary McArdle
Kilcoo-Brannigan, Laverty
Mayobridge-Michael Walsh
Tullylish-McAreavey, Johnson

interesting to see that many people are mentioning young johnson to take the number 3 jersey for the county team. some people may doubt him saying its a big step up from being a division 3 player and dropping into full back for the county. sure look at his team mate john mc areavey on his county debut scored 2-3 he made an impact in his county debut and is well worth another go in the county set up as carr did not give him much of an oppurtunity. i believe these 2 tullylish lads are worth their place in the county squad!
