John McAreavey from Tullylish is definitly county material, his left foot alone should have him included and should be about the squad this yr for sure. Also think Laverty from Kilcoo has something to offer and Mickey Walsh from the bridge

Said it before and ill say it again Rory McCaughey and Brian Rice from Bredagh. Owen Costello would be another player very capable of playing county football.

but these players arent playn at high level of football maybe they shine in division 3 but wud they be good enough for county football nt being smart just being relastic while players in division one are at a higher standard. ross carr over looked alot of division 1 players

the down under 21 team of the 79 had a lot of division 4 footballers from places like ballycran, glenn, aghaderg. There are good players playing in 4th division. Suppose its easier to pick a 1st division player. Atticall havnt had a proper county footballer in at least 10 yrs when paddy sloan was playing for them. And we were a good 2nd division team in that time. Couple of players played in McKenna cup and stuff but not in the championship or even the national league. Lonsgstone should have more than 1 on the team. Mark Poland should be on the panel.

Division 4 clubs cant stay with the pace of football in division 1, and if down wanna have some silver wear they needa change there ways and have players that can coupe with the intensity of county football.

I see some of the previous posters suggesting Conor Laverty of Kilcoo. Paddy O'Rourke gave Conor a chance a few years ago, and to be brutally honest it was a big mistake. He is far too light for county football, coupled with a complete lack of physical strength and an inability to take a score from outside of 30 yards.......this would be a major mistake. He's a good club player, nothing more than this in my opinion!!!! At the end of the day I don't think McCartan's panel will all that different from that off Ross Carr's. People keep reverting back to the likes of John Clarke and Mickey Walsh, and although they may get another go under James, they had numerous chances in the Down jersey in the past and never did it for me. The management I feel would be better off giving some of the younger players from the U21 set up over the last couple of years a chance. And by giving them a chance, I mean an extended run in the team throughout the league and the McKenna cup. The biggest criticism I would have of Ross Carr would be as soon as a young player new to the Senior set up had a bad game, he was cast aside and forgotten about. Hopefully James will give the younger players a proper go off it.

And im nt sayn that division 3 players shouldnt be on the county but its a very big step up are these players really capable of this step up

Timmy Hanna, Kevin Anderson, Peter Fitzpatrick, Connaire Harrison, John McAreavey, Kallum King, Mark Doran and a few Kilcoo boys (Anthony Devlin, Barry Kane?) deserve a go due to the fact they are consistently there at the business end of the league and have finally got the championship final they deserve. Not Laverty though, he had his go and didn't cut it. Nice beard all the same. Any An Riocht players playing good football? There's bound to be given their league position, haven't seen too much of them myself so I can't say.

Its simple if ur good enough you should be playing county football regardless of where ur from or which divison u play in.. Thers many a player in Div3 that would deserve a starting place in most Div1 teams..

On the div3 players named id say they'd cut it in div 1 easily..
