Does the Ceann Comhairle not automatically be re-elected without having to contest the next election or has it changed. I for one hope it has changed and he falls on his sword.

i dont think anything should happen to him except for a public apology for the simple reason that he did not rack up these bills as a ceann chomairle, but as a minister. so he should apologise and get on with it

Afraid that you are correct. He will be automatically re-elected.

renard. Just a bit of crack. See the reaction from some!. Anyway I think the waste, pensions, expenses etc of all politicians is a total disgrace. Notice how meek the opposition are as they dont want their perks interfered with. Yet Cowan and Lenihan are crowing about other parts of the Public Service getting too much.To use a Cowanism 'get real' all you in the Dail.

I find it amazing that this man's behaviour and general disregard for taxpayers money is not being lambasted by the opposition parties. All we hear is a mild criticism or a request that he explain his actions but nothing forceful at all. Would i be right in thinking that there are many skeletons in many cupboards ?

You are right clearly its a case of "let he who is without sin" all we are getting is he should pay back the ones that are "very blatant"
If this was the UK he would be gone a month ago -

lads i think a neck like a jockeys b?????ocks spring to mind. he will tough it out as he has done nothing wrong. he just screwed the system because that is what's in place. i am or maybe was a FF supporter but the current crop have forgotten their roots and I think a spell on the sidelines beckons in the near future. there was somuch excess that they have forgotten what life is like. remeber as a cabinet minister you get driven everywhere, feed at functions and everyone tips the forelock as you have the power to giveout the money. imagine not having to pay for food, or transport costs,. you have got to admire him a bit like that irianian who said the yanks were not near baghdad and them around the corner

I remember sitting in my office before the last general election so frustrated with the two middle-aged women i was working with. Both were Fianna Fail voters but hardly big Fianna Fail supporters. When i asked who they were voting for they said "Fianna Fail". I asked about the corruption and the tribunals and the sneaking suspicion that Fianna Fail had corruptly squandered the State's money during a period of unprecedented wealth.
Their reply was "Sure the other guys will be just as bad". While possibly true should someone else have not gotten a chance? I am no Fianna Gael man but in that election i voted Fianna Gael because, by default, they should have gotten in due to the blatant corruption of Fianna Fail. (it has since been a godsend for fianna gael that they didnt get in). Labour are on their way out in Britain due to perceived incompetence. In this country incompetence guarantees victory it seems.
In light of this latest scandal with O'Donoghue people are up in arms. We get the government we deserve. This is our fault because we are a nation of sheeple who vote the way our mammys and daddys do and did. So frustrating. Rant over

Indeed, middle aged women can be frustrating ok, but if you persevere they will leave a young one in the shade. like anything else you cant bate experience.
as for J.o.D. pelted to death with porcupine dung would be too good for him

Having just heard that the Labour leader is to propose a vote of no confidence in O'Donoghue and that already Sinn Fein will support it, tomorrow promises to be a very interesting day in the Dail. We could see the begining of the end of the Green Party if they vote in favour of "sleeze" and support O'Donoghue and even stranger he could possibly end up with his own casting vote saving his career. What a strange situation that would be, akin to the lunatics running the asylum !!
