Whoever selected the panel made a poor job of it. Steve Mac Jimmy Carroll Ollie Moran and Dave Clarke should be on this team but not in the positions where we were asked to select them.

Shoulderghost u owe Brian Carroll an apology. He most certainly didnt transfer to tipperary in 1981 he won a munster senior medal with Limerick in 81. Im not sure if he played for tipp after that becasue I have a vague memory of it but then again Mossy returned to limerick soon after (poss 82 def 83) so would Bomber have had time to transfer. Those of us from the west arent all solely concerned with football so would appear u r wrong on the double.

My dates may not be exact (it was over 30 years ago) but it doesn't disguise the fact that the 2 Knocklong men traded in the green and white for the blue and gold.

The following website has the correct story:

http://munster.gaa.ie/2012/05/27/2012-munster-gaa-hurling-championship-quarter-final-tipperary-v-limerick/

On June 7th 1981, Mossie Carroll (Garryspillane / St Mary's, Clonmel) who had played for Limerick, in the 1980 All Ireland final loss to Galway, lined out at centre back for Tipperary in the Munster semi final against Limerick at Semple Stadium. In opposition was his brother Brian 'Bomber' Carroll, who played at midfield. Mossie scored a point from a free for Tipp while Brian scored a vital second
half goal, as Limerick came back from an early second half deficit of 2-11 to 0-3 to earn a draw, with Joe McKenna's late point. John Grogan was top scorer for Tipp with 2-6 (0-5f) while Joe McKenna with 3-1 was Limerick's leading marksman. Limerick won the replay comfortably, in the Gaelic Grounds, two weeks later and this time the top scorers were Eamon Cregan on 1-5, (1-0 pen, 0-1f) and Seamus Bourke on 2-3 (0-2f). Mossie later served as a Limerick senior hurling selector.

The following year Brian Carroll lined out for Tipp at wing forward in the Munster championship against Cork, joining Mossie, who was again at centre back. Cork won by eight points and that was the last time the Carroll brothers wore the blue and gold in championship hurling.

Was at both matches in 81. Think u need to cut Mossie some slack while i could never fully condone playing for tipp he was in my view blackguarded in 1980 final ( again I was there). Had vague memory of bomber playing for tipp but memory not what it used to be. Think yours was a moot point anyway as Mossie wasn't gonna get 6 before ciaran or Brian get a slot at midfield. Let bygones be bygones. Carrolls are good servants to limerick and all 3 brothers mentioned in this selection panel. Your point on west lk ppl only following football is also wide of de mark. Seems u were up for a row on 2 fronts never a good idea. 4 west lk men on senior team this year btw.

I was at all of those games in 1980 and 1981 as well. Things looked bleak at half time in 1980 over in Thurles with Mossy playing a stormer for Tipp at centre back but Sean Foley played well at centre back in the second half and the big man Joe McKenna got an incredible hat trick to get us a draw. We killed them in the Gaelic Grounds in the replay. To my mind, the 1981 team was the best team that I saw leave Limerick. We totally left that All-Ireland after us.

I don't have any issues with the Carroll's. Mossy felt that he was made the fall guy for losing the 1980 All Ireland when there were a lot of other failures on the pitch that day. Cregan was unbelievable in that final but our corner backs got killed and our half forward line were wiped out. I was sure that we would win plenty of All Ireland's watching Galway get the cup in 1980 but I am now 45 (almost) and I am still waiting.
