The above selection is taken from a competition run in selected Limerick newspapers. The public can choose their selection in the paper and post in their team. The winners will be honoured at a Gala ceremony in the Strand Hotel Limerick on 16th of October. chipsOtoole (Limerick) - Posts: 38 - 11/09/2009 08:14:10 422760 Link 0 |
These polls are a joke. How the hell could you pick beteen Clarke and O'Donoghue at half back. Liam won an All Ireland at half forward! There are many inconsistencies. Look at the amount of players that have played in more than one position for Limerick and then get landed in maybe not their greatest position. fedex (Limerick) - Posts: 18 - 11/09/2009 10:17:37 422833 Link 0 |
I will vote but I certainly won't vote for the 2 hurlers who ran away over to Tipp to hurl in 1981... shoulderghost (Limerick) - Posts: 863 - 11/09/2009 11:05:43 422891 Link 0 |
Jimmy Carroll did all his hurling in the middle of the field. Why is he nominated at half-forward? Perhaps the nominators are mixing him up with Brian Carroll who also hurled mid-field alot but also lined out at half-forward on a few occassions... shoulderghost (Limerick) - Posts: 863 - 11/09/2009 11:23:24 422918 Link 0 |
Bad move nominating Reale and McDonagh in the same position as both should make the team. Paudie Fitzmaurice retired in 1986 and only played three of the 25 years. Likewise Big Joe finished in 1985 (played championship only that year) and is nominated at full-forward. No disrespect but Pat Davoren is a bizarre nominee at centre-forward as I don't think he ever played in this position in a Championship game. Danny Fitzgerald spent several years at centre forward but is also nominated in a position in which he also never played Championship. I'm young enough but I never heard of 2 hurlers going to play for Tipp?? Who were they? Whest (Limerick) - Posts: 2 - 16/09/2009 05:30:50 427389 Link 0 |
Whest, you must be very young or from West Limerick, as your names suggests, where they really only discuss the big ball game. The Carroll brothers Mossie and Brian from Garryspillane tranferred to a Tipperary club in 1981 and hurled for Tipp that year. Well, at least Mossie did. He had been substituted in the 1980 All-Ireland defeat to Galway. shoulderghost (Limerick) - Posts: 863 - 16/09/2009 10:07:31 427454 Link 0 |

Both shoulderghost! Cheers for the reply. I wasn't aware of such happenings down on the Tipp border. Whest (Limerick) - Posts: 2 - 16/09/2009 12:52:36 427646 Link 0 |
Its a joke the way the nominees are put together reale and mcdonagh should both be on the team. Geary and carey there are loads of people that should be kept apart therefore i wont vote not fair on some great hurling legends for limerick and through this system will be left out up the anty (Limerick) - Posts: 41 - 16/09/2009 14:54:37 427796 Link 0 |
pfpwcl: Houlihan was a great midfielder in his time, but pick someone with him as he wont mark 2 men. Clubgaa (Limerick) - Posts: 879 - 16/09/2009 15:19:40 427824 Link 0 |
Dont agree with the nomination process. reale/mcdonagh an immediate example. no reason why one cud not have been nominated in the other corner. also some guys just hurled for 1/2 years of the 25. but of those nominated in the positions for the best 15 hurlers to have lined out for limerick over the past 25 years i will pick as follows: OCF ABU (None) - Posts: 55 - 16/09/2009 16:00:29 427874 Link 0 |
cant make out why jimmy carroll as a half forward and tj as a corner forward john flanagan and creagan where are they i will not pick a team when who ever put the nominanations together wouldnt pick there nose silotar (Limerick) - Posts: 82 - 18/09/2009 02:11:28 429506 Link 0 |
agreed sliotar. whoever came up with these nominations hasn't a clue. also i see a number of teams without jimmy carroll (who was a midfielder like you say).madness to leave him out of this team. Mícheál Ó Hehir described him as 'the best hurler never to win an all-ireland' OCF ABU (None) - Posts: 55 - 18/09/2009 10:51:56 429641 Link 0 |

Have to agree on Jimmy Carroll the best midfielder limerick had. Before 84 doesnt count which was his best time against great cork hurlers hence cREGAN and Flanagan not in westtrooper (Limerick) - Posts: 329 - 19/09/2009 22:46:24 430721 Link 0 |
