Patrique, re:Scottish league,Who mentioned that? Players with ambition go to the premier league, players who want to coast towards mediocrity go to scotland. The Premiership is the most watched league in the world. If the same teams keep winning it that's cos they're the best! You obviously feel that United have underacheived in Europe and I agree Patrique-They have.Shock Horror!Even Fergie himself has admitted this. But before you rush to reply think of this: United-contrary to popular belief-have not competed in the CL for the past 20 years.About 14 maybe and allowing for the first year or 2 finding their feet etc,you could say 12(We were hardly Euro top-dogs when we came back into Europe after 26 years)In that time the big-guns have won the CL: Madrid (3) Man Utd (2) Milan (3) Munich (1) L'pool (1) Barca (2) Juve (1) Inter(0) Arsenal(0) Chelsea(0) So we are hardly languishing in the doldrums when you look at it closer. I can't possibly comment on the laughable notion of City playin in Europe until it actually happens. fredrickwood (Roscommon) - Posts: 2871 - 02/10/2009 17:16:18 443238 Link 0 |

fred when you made your list big gun teams who have won it in the last 20 years you forgot to mention the 4th most successful club europe has ever seen A.F.C AJAX of Amsterdam. one of he greats. a lot more successful than united with way less than half the resources and produced the greatest european footballer ever and probably the best ever- Johan Cruyff. 32_4_1 (Meath) - Posts: 4162 - 03/10/2009 00:18:03 443603 Link 0 |

If that's the best response happy days.In fact RKF that is a pet hate of mine as well people who use "we" in reference of teams across the way.I don't usually let slip on it but it may have been appropriate on this occasion. fredrickwood (Roscommon) - Posts: 2871 - 03/10/2009 08:44:35 443671 Link 0 |

Not all supporters are blinkered Patrique.32 I agree Ajax are a great club although it would be a challenge for them to rise again amongst Europes elite. fredrickwood (Roscommon) - Posts: 2871 - 03/10/2009 19:40:10 444018 Link 0 |

AJAX are a big club like it or not. i can only imagine you said they wernt in comparison to say liverpool due to their off the field activities. but if thats the case why is this small clubs stadium bigger with talks of expanding it to around 70000. why do they have one of the biggest fan bases in the world. or what do you base a "big club" on. every team goes through bad patches and ajax did in the last few years but now they have a quality manager and some very good players. they play in a "small league" granted but will win it easy enough this year and will be back in the champions league. when they get that far they normally progress to the latter stages of the champions league. add to the fact they will bring up another few very talented players through their academy in the next year they could become quite a force. their last two outings in the champions league proper they got beaten in two quater finals v milan and inter. last minute goals won it for the two milan clubs. ajax are a club that will always pop up every so often and win it due to their youth academy. theres only so long you can keep them down for. they are a BIG club and are one of only 5 teams to have the uefa badge of honour and keep the trophy. the only other clubs are milan, munich, madrid and liverpool. wheres the other "big" clubs inter, juve, man united, arsenal etc. 32_4_1 (Meath) - Posts: 4162 - 03/10/2009 19:49:58 444032 Link 0 |

I know it was a slip. I am a big follower of soccer but would never use 'we' when I refer to Chelsea. Might be inclined to use re St. Pats. as I have gone to a lot of their games over the years and live not far away.Usually enjoy asking people which part of Manchester,Liverpool etc. are you from?
