Why is that story in the paper? Maybe clubs in America should stop givin young lads money and free apartments and jobs and that would sort that problem out. What happens in Boston stays in Boston. Has anyone ever heard of that said before. If the same boys did it to an apartment in Ballina there wouldnt be a word said about it. cheap tabloid rubbish...the Sun wouldnt even print that about a professional footballer JJ55 (Mayo) - Posts: 51 - 10/09/2009 08:44:50 421479 Link 0 |

Can anyone explain what JJ is on about...?? Horsebox10 (Mayo) - Posts: 88 - 10/09/2009 11:09:46 421653 Link 0 |
Cheers JJ these lads have shown disrespect to the club that were generous enough to bring them over. Not a bad deal get flights and accomodation for free & in return just have to play a few games of football.! The boys obviously just seen it as a big **** up.! US clubs need to be more carefull who they decide to bring over Horsebox10 (Mayo) - Posts: 88 - 10/09/2009 11:53:56 421718 Link 0 |
dem 4 lads should be named and shamed in the paper - although im sure most people in ballina would know who they are yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11583 - 10/09/2009 12:43:58 421791 Link 0 |
why named and shamed?? Is there proof? were they criminally convicted in a court? JJ55 (Mayo) - Posts: 51 - 10/09/2009 13:38:14 421863 Link 0 |
Hi. That is just typical of a trash paper to print a story of that nature. Just to set the record straight I live here in Boston and am involved with the Mayo FC here. They guys in question did spend part of the summer here and yes they did leave earlier than was intended but this was due to other reasons which have nothing to do with the reasons stated in that article. I have been to the apartment and seen first hand the way it was left by these lads. The only thing that needed to be done was empty the trash bin and a quick hover. Actually it was properly left in as good a shape as it has been in a few years. I have been talking to the chairman David who is quoted in that article in the western people and he has said in that interview nothing was mentioned about wrecking an apartment. He was talking about the general behavior of some of the lads that come over for the summer. The only problem we had with the ballina boys was maybe a bit to much parting but lets face it thats no crime in an amateur sport. The fact that this article has made the front page of the paper is a serious issue for all GAA players. The paper has over stepped the mark about writing issues on the private life of our amateur players. If this is allowed what is next stories about there jobs or love lives. These guys dont get paid and for a story like this to be published purely on the bases that they are well known players from a big club is unacceptable. However to me this seems to be a story that has been fueled by a couple of sources who want to get a dig in at the ballina club and the guys involved. I just wonder if it was crossmolina players would this story have made the headlines. I will go on record as saying the mayo club in boston has had a lot of players over from the ballina club over the years and in our last 2 title wins in 1995 and 2005 it was 2 ballina men who let us to victory Liam Mac and pat heart. I hope this trash does not finish our great connection with one of the best clubs in Ireland. I will finish by saying that I expect a full apology to both the players and 2 clubs involved in next weeks paper dave202 (Mayo) - Posts: 1 - 10/09/2009 14:26:02 421910 Link 0 |
As I suspected.. ive been in a similar situation myself in america and actually did nothing wrong. lost a fairly big deposit in the process thats why this subject has brought back some bad memories. JJ55 (Mayo) - Posts: 51 - 10/09/2009 15:00:58 421948 Link 0 |
The Country is in the depths of its worst recession in a long time... And this is the best the Western People can fill their front page with?? Its a sad day for Journalism in the West of Ireland. rudiger (Mayo) - Posts: 26 - 10/09/2009 15:50:15 422018 Link 0 |
Good for nothin. That man from Boston wouldnt have bothered if there was no smoke without fire. At any rate no Ballina player has been making any headlines for playing football either for Ballina or Mayo or Boston. Brinsley Swartz (Mayo) - Posts: 2225 - 10/09/2009 16:27:21 422076 Link 0 |
This has been an awful year for Ballina, after getting trounced by near Neighbours Crossmolina in there home town then been thrown out of the championship with a Loss to other near Neighbours Knockmore this has topped it! The Dark days are here... Even there own Public Paper which is based in Ballina has turned against them.... It will be a quiet Xmas in Macs.. Im just wondering would that apartment that was apparently wrecked by the Ballina lads be in West Roxbury by any chance. I stayed in one in west roxbury in 2000 while over playing with the Mayo club . It was known as the Penthouse we had some savage nights there. I wonder is there any fellow Penthouse residents on here? Samiam (Mayo) - Posts: 121 - 11/09/2009 11:30:52 422924 Link 0 |

Keano..there are apartments wrecked contiually in Ireland..all rental properties and there aint nothing said about it. JJ55 (Mayo) - Posts: 51 - 11/09/2009 13:41:23 423086 Link 0 |
Keano will you please shut up, you clearly dont have a clue what your talking about, football in Boston is going strong. It is played fair and at a very high standard. Canton pulls in huge crowds each week (over 1400 for the state finals) and is doing very well, where your getting this out of i dont know? maybe you have'nt being out there in a few years? sure there can be a break out of fighting but i'v only ever seen this happen at junior level which as expected is a poor standard. Senior football is taken seriously by the players who train hard while there!! i dont know what club you were involved with but most of them are well run, well organised and do alot to help out the young lads that go over. dalganman (Mayo) - Posts: 47 - 12/09/2009 20:11:52 424124 Link 0 |
hy im actually a boston gaa fan and wish to add my comments. these lads have been defamed by your local rag. i cant believe in this day and age that they could print something without proof. if it happened in america they would sue their asses, im wondering could this be a set up by a rival club. These boys were an excellent addition to our club and a lot of people dont know these guys even spent an odd sundays running a soup kitchen when not playing ball. Are these guys going to be arrested cause if they are i will personally travel to "FREE the 4 " shano1 (Mayo) - Posts: 2 - 12/09/2009 23:40:41 424294 Link 0 |
It's a bit stupid if they actually didn't trash the place..............if they just played football and then had a good time, fair enough but where did the story come from?.......it must be from the Boston club? Cranky360 (Mayo) - Posts: 834 - 22/09/2009 21:10:58 433657 Link 0 |
