In my view there is not a big lot in it, the fact that Bryansford and Kilcoo are doing so well this year might edge it towards east down, it is also a common argument that there are not enough east dowm players on the county panel and if you look at the all-ireland winning team of 91/94 there were more players from east down than South Down

As a St Johns man i have to say south down in all levels!!
The only dominate teams in East Down now r Kilcoo(more less south down) and Bryansford while south down have the likes of Mayobridge,Burren,Saval,Rostevor,Clunduff and longstone

I'm from east down. The fact is south down has been more successful. It may be the same number of clubs but the fact that the south down teams retain the trophy or repeat their wins is evidence of superiority. But yes, the rivalry in terms of within a senior squad is pointless, it's good craic at underage level though in the big games bewtween big clubs
