RIP Galway football

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Great appointment. Paddyo, once again your judgement is very wide of the mark Joe Kernan has a great track record . I saw most of their championship games in '02 and they won a fine championship playing very good football. You are digging a deep hole for yourself and it's time to stop. Galway both last year and this year played the beautiful game and lost. No point in doing that. The All-Ireland final of '01 is the last championship game Galway won in Croke Park. It's time that changed. There is no guarantee of success with Joe Kernan, however I do think that Galway football has every reason to be optimistic should the man take over. Now where is Mikeyjohn? Has he gone in to hiding or is he in mourning. Oh Mikeyjohn, where are you?

armagh v tyrone in the 2005 all ireland semi final is probably the greatest game of this decade. enough of your ulster "anti football" talk!!

and who said armagh couldn't match "footballing" teams so played anti football?
in the 2002 all ireland semi final we took Dublin on at free flowing football and also in the 03 qualifiers. won both games!!
what about our demolition of donegal in te 04 ulster final?
or our demolition of laois in the 05 quarter final?
armagh played some wonderful stuff under kernan!!

Like I said on another thread, if he comes in and tries to change Galway football radically, it will all end in tears and more Connacht medals in Mayo. I f he comes in a simply puts some organisation on things, Galway could be real contenders. I think Joes achievements pale in comparison to Micky Hartes anyway.

Whats your point.....

Didnt you have the great Mickey Moran in charge of affairs in Mayo.
Where was he from?
Was there ever a more cynical character came out of the rushes than the bold Mickey?
Weren't a lot of you guys crying when he left.

kernan wil b a fantastic appointment. an outsider - xactly what is needed in galway. lack of discipline was a huge factor 4 galway this year + the "northern influence " will not stand for that or the politics that is usually associated with galway football. there is no denying that galway failed 2 reach their potential this year, that was truely evident during the donegal game. they failed to function as a team and paid the price for it. many commentators referred 2 the demeanor of the galway team when arriving 4 that donegal game... beaten b4 they even got off the team bus. here's hoping that tis marks a new era in galway football.

Big sacks Mickey Moran tried to introduce that negative cynical football. We didnt want it, thats why he was sacked as manager. It is a real pity about Galway though. I hope they come to their sense's and get a Galway born and bred manager. This reliance on other counties for there management is a real concern. why not persue Kevin Walsh? who at least is in tune with Galway football. If people think its a wind up there is a simple solution. dont read it. Its not that hard

Ogall- "Big sacks Mickey Moran tried to introduce that negative cynical football. We didnt want it, thats why he was sacked as manager"

This is absolute nonsense and you know it. The truth of the matter is that you have an 'out of date' County Board and the decision to oust Micky Moran was about politics and nothing to do with football. Why do you continue to make back handed digs at anything to do with Ulster? Get a life!

You reap what you sew. The 'messiah' will not be bringing you an All Ireland any time soon.

Now there is no need to get personal. By the way which county doesnt have an "out of date" County Board you'd be hard pressed to find one. Be nice now, the General election in the republic will be coming up soon, you know what that means.

Against a Dublin team who bottled it, Mickey Moran was also in charge when we got our first ever hammering in an All Ireland final, The scars have still not faded. Mickey Morans legacy will forever reasonate through out Mayo football

O Gall- "By the way which county doesnt have an "out of date" County Board you'd be hard pressed to find one."

The majority of County Boards make decisions with a view to bettering the lot of their GAA community. Not many, like Mayo, change the manager purely for political reasons. You get what you deserve.

Turning to Galway. Fair play to them. Employing the services of one of the most successful club and county managers of our time. Galway will certainly not be found wanting when push comes to shove. Unlike their neighbours who will continue to flatter to deceive and live in a fantasy world of ignorance.

Genuine question. Is this view shared by any other Mayo fans?

Galway didnt play good football this year. Why would they not get a Northern manager and win a few games ugly. I mean they were useless against both Sligo and Donegal. They scored 1-13 against Sligo and 13 points against Donegal playing your so called good traditional style football. Kildare on the other hand under Kernans right hand man Grimley and of course fellow Armagh man McGeeney played in two of the best games of the year, playing as good a brand of football seen this year and averaging around 20 points a game. Your argument has actually just gone out the window hasnt it!
