i always thought the derry and down teams of the 90s were great i think derry would have won more AIs if there was a back door and donegal were great they really put the work in to win their AI but i always say the antrim team that contested the AI against tip has to be the best to get to an AI final in hurling for them is like ireland getting to a world cup final they must have been one of the most committed teams ever in the gaa

Such wisdom is rarely found on these boards Hipster.

Donegal were a much better team than Derry. Derry would never have beaten Donegal in '93 Ulster Final except for the monsoon that occurred that day. But fair play to Derry, they did it with a limited team.

Isn't Ulster one big team? You always support each other in matches....I was at the league final this year and the Monaghan players were supporting Derry and visa verse (no sign of the Cork/Kerry fans supporting each others. Also at the recent minor match Kerry v Armagh, you got great cheers from the Tyrone supporters for Armagh but nothing from the Cork supporters regarding Kerry.

Kerry Kerry, We would normal go for the Northern teams if they are playing, Even if Tyrone was playing in the semis I would support them

Orlaith-yes the unity of the Ulster support is admirable and I have great respect for it; GAA support evolved differently down here and we would not necessarily support other munster teams if we were out.

Kerry Kerry, I'm messed up on who I'm supporting at the moment, I have 2 Kerry tops and a Cork top

JOHN BOSS: i have not run away, just thought it would be an interesting discussion so posted the original thread. i did base it on all Irelands and put Down first as i am unashamedly biased.

thanks patrique i think its amazing that the antrim hurling team of the 80s was one of the best and most committed teams to come from ulster they put it up to the big boys and they only got the one shot no back door and the provience did them no favours either , they also helped to drag down along the way
