U21 championship

i think the county board are an absolute joke...as a camber gaels player..i was really lookin forward
to the championship this year..and for the sake of one week they couldnt give it even at this late stage in the year i dont think
a week would have made a whole pile of difference.

That is so true hancock. these 2 clubs are going on to represent leitrim in connacht, the least they could have done was to postpone the u21 game until after next weekend! same old story from our county board!!

Sure what harm in them playing a match a week before the Connacht game. Arent manor playing a league final a week before theirs? and I dont hear them complaining. Sure you could get injured in training just as easy. I think Co Board are correct.

Dromahair we're very impressive yesterday against Kiltubrid. Declan Fowley at half forward was in terrific form along with Gerard Kelly. Man of the Match Kevin Conlon is a star for the future and will defo be on the county senior panel in a couple of years. A terrific talent. Emmet Mahon for Kiltubrid also was excellent on the day with some excellent fielding of the ball in midfield. The u21 B championship is goin to be a very close call this year. it will come down to who has the most anigav

Was at the Outheragh v Drumlea game the weekend, Outheragh were slow to get out of the traps but my god whatever their manager said at half time did the job for they came out and ran riot!!!! With Damien Gilheaney running the show at full forward he must of scored about 1-6. They were very impressive and scored some fine points both feet!!
It will take a strong team to beat them and a strong defence to manage their forwards!! I think it will be an Outheragh, Mohill/ Eslin Final!!!

I noticed a big win for Glenfarne/Kilty in the B competition against Annaduff.

What's the story there? Have Glenfarne a strong U-21 squad?. Does it contain many of the team that got to intermediate Semi-Final? What sort of a team had Annaduff this year?

4-12 is a good score to knock up on a day like last Saturday was.

Also Melvin Gaels had a big win against Carrigallen with an equally impressive 7-10.

Anyone at any of these games?

leitrimfollower Does the high scoring of Glenfarne/Kilty and Melvin Gaels not tell you something about the oppositon without being at the games????????????

It's obvious Smokie that the opposition were poor. What I'm wondering is why or how is this so?

Annaduff would have consistently being in the 13 or 11-a-side underage competitions for the last number of years whereas Glenfarne/Kilty are in the 9-a-side all the time. For there to be that much of a gap at U-21 Annaduff must have lost alot of players from underage or were understrength.

Alot of arguments for abolishing 9-a-side competitions because they are not good for developing players but if a team who consistently plays at that level hammers a team who are playing at a level above that then that theory goes out the window.

Annaduff have been consistent in the Senior ranks for the last few years and Carrigallen got to the Senior final this year. To see their Under 21's take such a beating is a bit suprising.

leitrimfollower I think you mis understood me, I was speaking about the senior glencar/manor team, I do not know much about under 21 team but I think it was a mixed bag, some years you can have a stronger under 21 team than others and I think that is reason in the case manor

I think st marys have a really gud chance of winning the u21 champo, they have quality forwards but they are rock solid at the back, this is mainly down to one person. hes a larger than life fullback and his name is conor guckin. He was terrific against manor. Hes surely deserves a county call up??

Melvin gaels should definately be in "A". There team is well capable of winning the A championship!

They beat Carrigallen 7-9 to 0-5 in the first round!!!!!

Just wondering how Cloone are getting on in the U21 Championship? I know they have lost servives of key talisman Paddy Murray who's recovering from an appendix operation as well as influential attacker Andy McGovern who's taking a break from the game? I've seen Murray play in the past and believe he's bulked up over the last few months so hope he can get back into county contention as he's a superb footballer!

Word in Carrick is dat guckian lad is going to try a Kennelly on it and let Tomas Beirne know he's in a game early on tomorrow in the U-21 semi- final. Personally i'm against it.

Just bak from the st. mrys v's manachans game there. St marys by far the more superior team. Ray mulvey had a field day on today beirne and he scored 2 of the best points your likely to see all year. i dont think iv ever seen a player as fast on the ball and as comfortable on the ball. But once again there true leader and vice captain conor 'super' guckian was outstanding. Coming out wit balls and lad bouncing of him. Had heard an awful lot about conor beirne but id say he touched the ball twice and that was to take his 2 frees. St mrys will be hard stopped. The final should be a cracker.

i too was at the game, it was finely balanced until the carrick management made the wise and obvious choice of throwing Douglas "sparkle" Butler into the mix. (as an aside why didn't he start?) butlers clever use of the ball and confusing running made it hard for the eslin/mohill amalgamation. he was always in the right place at the right time in both defense and in attack, his cleverly fisted point was just reward for all his hard work. who do they play in the final?

Guckian... A larger than life presence .... i think that full back position is his next year on the senior team.

Anyone any thoughts on the Finals

St Mary's v Oughteragh Gaels in the A

Melvin Gaels v Glenfarne/Kilty in the B

Haven't been able to get to see any of the games so don't really know what the story is with any of the sides. Looking at the results, Melvin Gaels would have to be big favourites for the game against Glenfarne.

St. Marys and Oughteragh Gaels should be a good game going on the results.
