As an Armagh man I would like to see him go to galway aswell (because I would like to see him succeed), he is an excellent manager and I know he would do well for you'se. He also has family connections in Ballinasloe. If there's one county he'd have a love for after Armagh it'd be Galway but I know he's very busy with his new business so maybe bad timing!

PS I hope Galway do well in Leinster and go on to lift Liam in 2010.

think he would be a great appointment. he wouldnt stand for any messing and he would instill a spirit, a belief and a discipine that has been lacking in Galway since we won the all ireland in 2001. he would be a great figurehead for galway gaa and would be a massive coup if he got the job

Be wary....JK lost Armagh more All Irelands than he won !!

He is very defensive. I've seen Armagh have some of the finest forwards in Ireland but play with 12 men behind the ball and 2 up front.. Why would he do this when he had McConville, Marsden, McEntee, Clarke, McDonnell up front ??

Is this what Galway ( traditionally attacking and free footballing) want to go to ? On a positive note, his motivational skills would be good, so a mixed bag alround i think!

He is the main runner now anyway. An ideal candidate in many peoples eyes, im not so sure though. Too defense minded for a team like ours that is suited to attacking football.

give him the ballinasloe job first and if he can do anything with them, then he deserves the galway job no doubt.

fearnua I see your point but Joe has already achieved difficult posts in that he took Crossmaglen Rangers to 3 Club All Irelands in 4 years and won Armaghs only All Ireland. I know he would never go back to club management unless it was for Cross and the only thing that may entice him would be a county side and the only county apart from Armagh would be Galway. I honestly hope you get him because I think he would be good for Galway and it's a county I like. Also remember the Cross teams he managed were not overly defensive teams but they played beautiful free flowing football and their success was their attacking capability and team spirit.

I think Joe would be a good appointment as I mentioned on another thread. The fact that he has Galway connections is a bonus. I think he would have the right amount of tactical nous, respect from the players and he would achieve the correct balance between defensive / attacking football that would suit Galway. I may be wrong but I can't see anyone else out there at the moment that could get this Galway team to achieve their full potential. Since the end of the great team that John O'Mahony had in 98 - 01, we have seen defensive tactics from Peter Ford to the detiment of the attack and vice versa from Liam Sammon. We need to achieve the right balance and become more ruthless ala Tyrone, Kerry and now perhaps Cork.

personally i would love to see him getting the job, joes brilliant work with cross and armagh has given him an awesome reputation and apart from big kevin there seems to be no other stand out candidate for the galway job at present.
however the logistics of travel and time would mean that joe would clock up tens of 000s of miles to and from armagh.
also i get the feeling that joe would find it hard to muster up the internal 'drive' that he feels for his own people and transfer that motivation to another county.
i know he is being spoken to and we await with interest the deliberations of the selection committee.

In fairness you have to respect Joe Kernan's record with teams. It is exceptional. I am still unsure whether he would suit the mindset of Galway footballers (which is very much rooted in old style 15 v 15 man on man football). However I would be shocked if we managed to get anyone with a better CV than Kernan (bar Micko). For all the talk of Armagh being very defensive I do remember them playing some very good football at times. Granted they defended in numbers but after gaining possession they were usually very quick in getting ball into their full-forward line.

Its hard to know how much of a basis this has but anyway I think he's the man for the job if everyone is happy and funds permit.I think he can strike the right balance with the team we have.I think there a number of players will be looking over their shoulders if he comes in.He won't tolerate the casual attitude shown by a number of players in recent years.

I think Joe Kiernan would be a great choice for Galway. I also think if he does become the manager some of the present panel will get a quick shift and rightly so. There will be no place for the prima donna type on Joe's panel and that's for sure. I look foward to some good day's ahead, lets hope it happens.
