Over Reaction to Tyrone

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Well I have to say it is interesting the over reaction of Tyrones defeat. As a Kerry supporter I can relate to it, only 4 weeks ago Kerry were over the hill and lost the appetite. Same as Tyrone are now apparently. I talked to a few Ulster Gaels and they were all writing Tyrone off. Ulster commentary in the papers is the same. My reaction is bull, Tyrone will be back. A few quandries posed Are Kerry and Tyrone losing it with the squad older? Will Kerry get that chance to beat Tyrone under Jack? Will it turn out to be a few years of the Rebels and Kingdom battling it out. My opinion is Tyrone are not gone. As previously said last week they will have to do what Kerry have done over 13 years, evolve as a unit, and I no doubt they will.

Of course they will, just like most other counties. Look at kildare last year, we were told they would be better off packing it in. Now the same ones are telling us they are world beaters. Its garbage.

In short, Yes!! Unfortunately, the world of sport in now one of instant gratification and if its not achieved the team is rubbish and the manager has to go. There is so much critism on here I despair. The reaction to Tyrone & every other result is just too much. Remember a few weeks ago when folk said kerry were finished after the Sligo and Antrim games. Then we all saw them against Dublin

Armagh win an all ireland and people say they are a 'one hit wonder' despite being one click away ( Gormly blocked Mcdonnell) from back to back
all irelands and winning 7 Ulsters. Kerry win 4 all Irelands but people say well you didn't beat Tyrone and when tyrone win 3 AI's folk say it wasn't done back to back. Give me strength!!

Do I think Tyrone are finished. Well, i feel they now enter a transition period with a few retirements and some new blood mixed in with those not retiring. If Kerry do meet tyrone in 2010 it wont be the same Tyrone that faced them in 03, 05, 08. This year was Kerry's last chance to try and beat that particular tyrone team and that chance has gone now

Having watched the whole game over again this evening, I have no doubt that Tyrone will be back. The loss of Cavanagh was pivitol, tyrone looked disjointed throughout. Poor kickout decisions, poor defending at Cork's kickouts, men being uncharacteristically dispossessed, poor free taking and wrong options for passes. limited ideas up front resulting in pot-shots from all over the show. Hopefully they'll dust themselves down and re-evaluate the way forward to mount a challenge next year to stop the emerging force of Cork. Cassidy and Red Sean O'Neill surely challenging for starts next year.

Cork were very physical with tyrone yesterday, they hit hard and fair resulting in Gormley, McMahon, Dooher and McGinley all being substituted. Before the game all this would have been unthinkable Penrose and Hub will also be sore today. Again Good luck to the rebels in the final. They will have to dish out a similar intense performance to get by this weekend's winners.

if you bothered to take of this green and gold coloured spectacles you'd see that tyrone play great football, and kick more than any other team.

Does that mean this great tyrone team is actually a one man band??

The Master, The point I was trying to make was that if you had any idea of what it is like to be on any panel of players preparing for a big game and had a game plan set in place to beat the opposition and if you lossed a player of the quality of Cavangh - (the 2008 player of the year and numerous All star winner) - it would kind of mean that all manner of game plans or tactics go out the window. Canty ran riot against Tyrone on Sunday - Would this have happened if he was left to look after Sean Cavanagh going at full tilt? We'll not know this year but this Tyrone team will be back challenging for All Ireland's again at the business end of the season and not merely making up the numbers like the county you claim to hail from.

I agree its a huge over reaction, we saw last year that Tyrone have very good footballers with very good skills in pretty much all positions but on on Sunday, not only did they not have Cavanagh but their usual big players (Dooher, Ricey, McGinley, Gormley, Harte etc.) just weren't on form. Mainy Dooher had a poor game and if both he and Cavanagh are on song then usually the rest click into gear ok ... but not Sunday.

I've no doubt they'll be back.

Hokey, I wouldnt agree with your analysis Tyrone play great football. But the great thing about the GAA is each side play there own way and people view it differently, and You lads have enjoyed 6 or 7 years with this team so your rightly enjoy it. Kerry play quite differently, and when we were veering towards the way Tyrone and Armag h play the Kerry masses were none too pleased.
Hurling has the same thing some counties play differently.

I understand what you are saying, but we have been reminded and reminded that tyrone are the best team ever to play football. So my point is how can such a great team be disjointed after losing one player?

If it wasnt for a wasteful Kildare, Tyrone would have went out in the last 8 and Cork outplayed them from start to finish so forgive me for thinking they are finished but if they arent I wouldnt be too suprised either.

It most certainly is an over reaction to be writing Tyrone off,but that will suit the lads and Mickey Harte just fine. You were all saying the same about Kerry a few weeks ago and look what happened. On a different day Tyrone would have been more than capable of winning against Cork and I put it to you now that if this Cork team dont win Sam this year then it is back to square one for them, and it will be the same thing for Kerry if they make it past Meath and dont win the final. There will most likely be a few retirements from both Cork and Kerry either way, maybe for Tyrone too.Point being, next year will be different for each squad and there will be no way of telling who is best till championship is well underway next year.

Yet again an insightful input from the King of Connemara. Tell us, what about this Galway team of yours? Playing lovely football 9/10 years ago, played lovely against Kerry last year but oh oh, no trophy. I'll tell you the truth about Galway, they robbed Sligo. But for taking the **** by Mayo you would have been beaten out the gate by Mayo and beaten by a Donegal team that were beaten by Antrim. Yet again you prove my point by coming on to a thread about Tyrone, where for the best part of the posts a serious adult discussion is taking place and your input " give us a bloody bucket" If you don't like Tyrone so be it, but please, please stay away from threads concerning them unless you have a valid argument in relation to it. Lord God where do they get them out of??????????????????

Redhand, I know its difficult but try to resist rising to MJ's immature trollings. He's only trying to get his post count up before he goes back to school. Meanwhile back to the adult discussion I was enjoying reading.
