The Banty stays on !

Think a change would have been better,

Older players will give it one more year, younger plasyers will not get a fair chance

OK. We have won no serious silverwear but surely you cannot deny that we have made progress under Banty. We are in division one, got to the division two final last year (probably beaten by All Ireland Championships) and won a division two title under Banty's reign. We had a disapppointing championship this year. We need to kick on from that now, but lets support the team - there is no advantage in opening up a debate that the Monaghan County Board have made the wrong decision wrt Banty.

So lets focus on who would be great backroom personnel to bring in and what areas Monaghan need to develop in to kick on from here. Personnaly, I think we need big fast men for midfield and on forty and at centre half back to match Corks dominance. They could be about for a while. We also need some more accurate fowards up front to take dependence of Tommy, Rory and Paul F and perhaps a big man like a Donaghy would suit us well. We also need a small bit more steel in defence and in goal.

If we could draw on Joe Kernin's wealth of experience and cuteness and perhaps some good motivators to instill confidence, i believe that would also help this Monaghan team enmorously. A good Ulster Senior Football Championship draw and some success at U21 and minor would also help.

O. K. It is easy to agree that the banty has without doubt improved the fortunes of our county team in the past few years. But it is surely time for a change. Two ulster championship wins in 5 years is really poor. I know people talk about winning div 2 but get real people div 2 title was the equivelant of the now div 3 title. I believe he has had his time but I will be the first there to support him and the lads come mckenna cup time and hopefully being in division 1(the real division 1 not like 4 years ago) will have us battle hardened for a major assault on Ulster..

What a turn up for the books. I was shocked to hear that Banty was staying on.

OK I wasn't a bit. I think everyone felt certain he would give it another crack. Marty staying too but a few changes to the backroom team apparantly. I think the Division 1 league games probably helped make his decision in the end.

I hear the banty has pulled off a big coup and has got paul grimley on board for next year. mcelkennon staying on too. grimley was odds on for the armagh job. that explains why the decision was delayed until this week. the time was spent persuading grimley on board.

Best of luck to Banty in 2010. Usually in the long run luck balances itself out so Monaghan are due some favourable draws this year. After all his hard work bringing this Monaghan team on, it would be nice to see him rewarded with an Ulster title

Best of luck to Seamus and all the team.
What you mean who cares - we all care. A good county team means better club football and more young players wanting to get involved.

I would suggest that you ''jon123'' take a deep breath.
Club football is important but surely like the rest of us you would love to the county team achieve success?
I am glad Banty is in for another year, I feel he has some unfinished business to take care off, and of course we are playing in Div 1 - some great fixtures to look forward too in 2010!

Banty should have stepped down. What more can he get out of this team? Nothing.....its only going to go further down hill from here. A complete change is what the players would thrieve on.

John Rambo, that comment you made was the most sense i have heard in weeks of this forum. New blood is what is needed. Although grimley could be a breath of freash air.

I have to say that I was on the fence regarding Seamus McEnaney's future. I was leaning towards a change, but unsure as to who might be the best replacement.
It has been mentioned by several posters that the Monaghan team under Banty is very predictable (starting 15, who comes off and goes on) and that he needs to blood new players during the League. I totally agree with all of this and hope that Banty's and the County Board's decision to bring Paul Grimley in as Assistant Manager is evidence that they are being proactive and "blooding" Monaghan's next manager. After all it is probably more important to maintain continuity at management level in order to keep the team on it's toes!
So GOOD LUCK to Seamus, Paul, Marty and the rest of the Monaghan squad for 2010 and the future!
