Minor Championship Final----- Omagh vs Kildress

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Kildress will only win if they resort to foul them every time Omagh get the ball, but Omagh have to much quality..especially the 5 county minors to Kildress's none. Omagh to win by 5 I'd say. Young mullan to mark philly lennon, plus i dont think kildress could handle Conan Grugan around the middle aswell as O'Neill

Omagh to win comfortably, too much firepower

To gael_123, Kildress are not a one man team and even if Philly is contained then other players will step up. You don't get to a county final being a bad team and I think that this Kildress side has another big performance in them. Good luck lads.

A few posters being very unfair to Kildress. As others have stated, you don't get to a championship final if you are a poor team and the league game was an interesting tussle. It will be very tight but Omagh should, by virtue of probably having one or two more that can change the game for them, win by a couple of points. In relation to the point about county players, I think it is niave Wolfy to compare Senior and Minor. At senior, the game is built more on a team ethos and system of play, whilst at minor the better individuals tend to have more influence on the game than at senior level. However it should be a good game and hopefully our lads can come out on top

Kildress of to a flying start 1-02 to 0-01 ahead after fifteen minutes. Omagh ease back level with a couple of frees courtesy of O'Neill, Grugan and Clarke, icluding two absolute gems from O'Neill and Grugan. Level at half time, Omagh step up a gear and move a couple clear but are unable to shake of a dogged Kildress. Gallagher receives a straight red for Omagh, can only be for striking but I did not actually see it. Omagh to their credit continue to control the game with O'Neill cutting the Kildress defence to shreds on a number of occasions one leading to an absolutely diabolical penalty decisiom by the referee, much in keeping with the rest of his performance. Justice is done when O'Neill pulls a "Berbatov" with the penalty attempt. He makes up for it moments later with an absolutely sublime point about two yards of the end line. With Grugan winning a lot of ball at midfield Kildress struggle to make headway and Omagh retain their 3 point lead with some comfort to clinch the first Minor Championship in 26 years and clinch the League and Championship double. Due credit must be given to Kildress for a gallant challenge with Lennon their outstanding player. Unforunately for Kildress he was forced to come quite deep to get adequate ball and consequently his danger was somewhat managed by the Omagh defence. However, given that this was their first ever Grade One Minor final and the fact that quite a few of the team are underage next year, the future looks bright for the Wolfe Tones. A final word on the sporting nature of the game despite the best efforts of the referee whose interpretation of the rules was somewhat puzzling in respect of decisions against both teams. Kildress accepted defeat with extreme magnamy and this also bodes well for this club as clearly this bunch of lads are level headed as well as skilful.

Recent performances by Omagh at all levels in underage football would suggest that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with in the next few years at senior level. Dark horses for the senior county championship this year perhaps??

The Omagh players sending off was for a neck high tackle on Conor McAleer.

Thanks for that TyroneGAA, was that the initial challenge for the free? I did not think that Gallagher committed that foul

McAleer suffered a bit of a concussion as a result of that high tackle. He played a great game, 2 points from centre half back marking Grugan and hes still under 16. One for the future.
