Eastern Gaels

1-18 to 1-3, Eastern Gaels were very poor, no fight at all. I think they will even struggle in division 5 next year. Sad to see......

Would also like to add they then went back trianing two weeks before the Ballyhaunis game cos of the ocal rivalry. Is this a real club?

I think an amalgamation would be the best idea for both clubs. They are 2 of the only clubs in the county which, due to small numbers, can not field a 'B' team. This way there would be a 'B' team, with everyone playing decent football.

Have to disagree with you Hillbilly,Ballyhaunis are just starting to emerge from a tough few years and great credit is due to the players ,officals and supporters who not only kept the flag flying, but have the club prepared to compete with at the top level when things eventually and enivitably turn around.

I really dont feel that the two clubs should amalgamate. There has been an awful lot of work put in to eastern gaels and it would be a shame to see it wasted. Also when u see 50 or 60 lads out every saturday morning it obvious that the club has a future. So i dont want to hear about amalgamation. And on the junior team they hadnt a great season this year and they were without a manager.but next year hopefully there wil get one and it willl be lot different than this year.

Popup, you say fair credit to ballyhaunis players, supporters and officials....fair enough the players, but you tell me what the supporters and officials have done for the club? Both taking their sides on football or hurling, they are ruining the club

Batigol you are right about the training over the summer and in recent week ect ect ect. This is a joke. I was at the game Friday evening and it was not a pretty sight. Bally H should have won by another 10 points. They had a good few wides and also from what I could see were missing a few 1st choice players. To be fair to them they could have gone to town on the gaels but did'nt.This did not go unnoticed amoung EG supporters. Also the referee did the gaels no harm to say the least.
In relation to amalgamation, I don't know if bally h are too pushed about that, from last Friday I could'nt see any EG player that would improve Bally h, by all accounts they have a few comming up the ranks from underage and are happy enough looking to the future. I honestly don't think Ballyhaunis would want the hassel. Amalgamation at the minute would do no good for Bally H and would only serve to end the existence of EG.
Lets call a spade a spade, EG at junior level are in big trouble. In 2005 we played in the last 4 of the championship, now I am sorry to admit we are in the bottom 4,at this stage we look like getting relagated next year also unless big changes are made. As I hinted earlier it does'nt matter what club you are at you still need to train and be disciplined to compete, the palyers need to take some responsibility.

Batigol you are well entilted to you opinion but I would ask you one favour, please try to refrain from asking are we a real club. beacause this is hurtful to the wonderful volunteers that give their time to underage in Easterngaels. In the past underage was neglected and this has us in the mess we are in right now, but there is a massive effort being made at the present to right the wrongs of the past. There are big turnouts to training week in week out. The club never had a bigger involvement from parents and mentors alike at underage, the day of the minor semi V Down a large number of youngsters were brought to Croker on tour, believe it or not this was'nt done in the past.
I personally do not know what the future holds but the pressure is on big time.

Eastern Gaels are a good bunch of lads and there is no dislike between them and ballyhaunis. Best of luck to Eastern Gaels in the future from all at Ballyhaunis, hope ye can turn things around....

Was at the game 2 unfortunately. I will take each team seperately:
1.Eastern gaels are in trouble big time. The only tactic they had was to let the grass grow a foot long to try and slow down ballyhaunis. They dont field a team for a championship match and then a few weeks later have 25(approx) togged for a meaningless match against their neighbours. just shows you the mindset/mentality of these players.I think the junior team should disband for a few years and save their club wasting money/fees that go to the county board. If their is an emerging underage structure wait a few years for them to come through. Apart from their goalie (not sure how old he is) none of the team that are over 23 would get on any junior team in the county.
2. Ballyhaunis are a good junior team but a poor intermediate team. Cant really see them doing anything special in the next 5 years. Will probably have to drop down to junior at some stage if they want to try and win a county title (something they have tried before). They definatey have notions above their station.

SpookyCat i will take my statement back about whether Gaels are a "real club". Looking back it was the wrong thing to say.

I agree that none of the Gaels team would improve Ballyhaunis. I also agree that Ballyhaunis arent a great Intermediate side. But its the 50 or 60 youngsters that could improve Ballyhaunis. If you add those 50/60 to the 20/30 at Ballyhaunis underage it would be similar to what Aghamore have. Keep them interested. Keep them together and then there's a real team contending at senior level in 10 years.
Surely thats better than perpetual mediocrity for both clubs?

Sound Batigol,

In relation to other comments you have a point, just one thing in relation to EG underage numbers. They are healthy however the group is made up of male and female from u8 to u12 's.From what I hear Bally H have healthier numbers than this.

Also In relation to commitment, discipline and application to training ect ect(the basics) I think both clubs at aldult level need a big shake up.

Born in Meath but played most of my club fball in east mayo. now living in ros so take a keen interest in all these counties. Might have came up against yourself at some stage but u were prob b4 my time. i guess u still play? Anyway how will EG turn things around? maybe they should go back to previous managers that brought them sucess in past like fellow with glasses cant remember his name or that teacher yee had a few years back. Deffo wouldnt join with bhaunis as they are goin down d tubes aswell

dickybird, Fair enough. I figured it was something like that as you knew more than most in Meath about The Gaels.Prob played against ya alright. I finished playing with EG 2 years ago. After watchin the lads last Friday I don't know how they will turn things around. One thing is for sure they need a manager and they need to get fit.

Just one thing. The grass was long for the Ballyhaunis game but this was not a tactic, the weather was so bad they could'ny cut the grass.Genuinly this was the case. In any case it did'nt really matter in the end

This is my last post on this thread, I'd say most are getting bored with it at this stage, time to concentrate on supporting the Mayo minors and hunting for a manager for EG next year,

spooky one last question...... if you played until 2 years ago and were at the match a last day it begs the question why dont you manage the team next year in their greatest hour of need? And then we could all go along and see who the real spookycat is. ur such an expert its bound to be a sucess.
