Saw that also. Very unusual to throw their last championship game, when they had a chance of qualifying. I passed by their pitch on Thursday night and they were out training. Looked to have about 10 out. You'd wonder why they bother when they can't field in championship games. They could be joining Ballycroy soon... highking (Mayo) - Posts: 168 - 11/08/2009 18:42:41 388360 Link 0 |
E gaels had a terrible year going down in the league . Lost 5 or 6 players to emigration i know all clubs have this problem in these times but when picking from such a small pool of players it is devastating. Still no excuse and should be fielding in championship , actual makings of a good junior team there but discipline and commitment seems a problem 2winjust1 (Mayo) - Posts: 57 - 11/08/2009 19:55:54 388462 Link 0 |
Their going through a bad time but the only way to change it is to start from scratch and get something coming through in underage. I hear some of their older better players are thinking of putting in a transfer. That would be the worst thing that could happen them. If that happens they will be finished as a club jim jim (Mayo) - Posts: 117 - 12/08/2009 01:01:17 388946 Link 0 |

Ballyhaunis don,t want them ,they have made their bed now lie in it Popup (Mayo) - Posts: 157 - 12/08/2009 13:58:14 389417 Link 0 |
who said ballyhaunis dont't want them, I think it would benefit 2 teams with small picks hillbilly (Mayo) - Posts: 211 - 12/08/2009 14:56:01 389503 Link 0 |
Of course Ballyhaunis would want them! Its the older generation of hardliners that created Eastern Gaels with a hatred of Ballyhaunis. But the great Ballyhaunis teams from the 1970s had Gaels lads playing. They all went to school together so why not let them join back and have a really competitive team rather than two poor ones? Sounds right for them to amalgamate. What would they be called? Ballyhaunis Gaels? They could have an Intermediate team based in Haunis and a Junior team based in Brickens. Underage would be strengthened up also. What are peoples thoughts on it? Also, whats Ballycrays story? Where are there players gone to? highking (Mayo) - Posts: 168 - 13/08/2009 00:09:23 390230 Link 0 |
BatigolStatue, You are wrong. Eastern Gaels was not formed due to a hatred for Ballyhaunis. The clud was formed in 1984. It was decided to organise a game to celebrate centenary year , so many lads turned up they then decided to form a club. Spookycat (Mayo) - Posts: 56 - 13/08/2009 09:51:40 390322 Link 0 |
who said eastern gaels dont like ballyhaunis? I dont think that is a true statement. They went to school together and sure I think some of the eastern gaels and ballyhaunis lads are best of mates hillbilly (Mayo) - Posts: 211 - 13/08/2009 13:28:07 390595 Link 0 |

A lot of the Gaels lads are best mates with the Ballyhaunis lads but thats not whats going on. Its the administrators and wannabe politicians running Eastern Gaels that would rather die than join with Ballyhaunis. I think the centenary game is a smokescreen to shadow the real reason SpookyCat. All a good turnout at a centenary game would do is guarantee a centenary game the year after and year after that, the Gaels hierarchy hate Ballyhaunis and thats why they persist with this shambles rather than swallowing their pride and return to Ballyhaunis. Ballycroy lost a lot of their players to emigration and did'nt have enough numbers to field a team. There only decent player got a transfer to kiltane where he is performing well and will be play against ballintubber sunday in championship. tazbar (Mayo) - Posts: 7 - 14/08/2009 07:57:15 391603 Link 0 |
Hillbilly + BatigolStatue, not everyone in Eastern Gaels attended school in Ballyhaunis, and not all the ones that did are mates with Ballyhaunis people however you are right there are some strong friendships there. These friendships are not just confined to the present generation they stretch back many years, decades and centuries and mostly have nothing to do with football. The same can be said of Claremorris, Aughamore, and Ballindine Davitts , all teams that players from the EG catchment area used to play for before 1984. It is a fact that Eastern gaels were formed following a big turn out to a game among themselves to celebrate centenary year, not a smoke screen. As for quoting players names on this forum in order to stir up **** , I think this is a disgrace. I think you are the politician and not the people running Eastern Gaels. In fact the people running EG at the minute have very strong links with Bally H, stronger than any time in the history of the club. Just a question on the 2 lads you mention who you are so sure want to leave EG, would they make the Ballyhaunis team? If the EG hierarchy are so against Ballyhaunis why then does your ref on the County scene bring 2 former officers of EG as umpires to each Game he refs, most notably the AI minor final in 2001. Also in recent years EG have held at least 3 club events in Ballyhaunis in the form of race nights ect ect,If the present officers were against Ballyhaunis as much as you would like to make out why did they not have these events in Cloonfad, Claremorris or Ballindine as was the case in the past. As for "returning to Ballyhaunis" and the best players wanting to leave EG to transfer to B haunis, I'm not so sure. If EG did fold in the morning only a small few would go into Bally h, the rest would just not play as was the case before 1984. From what I can see from BatigolStatue yee are only interested in the 2 best players, this would be ideal for Bally H, but what about the other lads that would not get a game. If Ballyhaunis want to amalgamate with EG I'm sure EG might consider it but that is something that would be decided democratically by both clubs and not by **** stirers on this forum Spookycat (Mayo) - Posts: 56 - 14/08/2009 08:56:43 391616 Link 0 |
The proposed amalgamation of EASTERN BALES AND BALLYHAHAHAUNIS makes a lot of sense as both will be playing Junior football next year.!! Brinsley Swartz (Mayo) - Posts: 2225 - 14/08/2009 14:54:43 392209 Link 0 |
BatigolStatue You are no more from Claremorris than Barrack Obama. However it is correct to say that the junior team in EG are in trouble at the minute. The fact that they have lost 12 players plus in the last 3 1/2 years has had a major impact. Ballyhaunis have the same problem as do alot of clubs. In th mid nineties EG had the same problem and they survived. This time round it is more serious, however the numbers and time invested at underage level are better now than in the nineties and the future looks bright. At underage level players are being educated properly on commitment and discipline. Alot of peoplle are giving great time to this and I think it is a serious insult to these peple to say EG are a joke. When these youngsters reach the aldult this work will bare fruit. I am sure there are players from the junior team giving out, complaining and getting frustrated, but say these players do join another club they will have the same problem if they don't train and apply the required discipline and commitment that is needed to be successful. Answer me this , how come at least eight youngsters fom the EG catchment area that started playing in Ballyhaunis have now returned to EG???? The next time you are passing the pitch in Brickens open you eyes, you will see a perfectly modern and operational set of flood lights surounding the pitch installed 2 years ago. In relation to going to a Ballyhaunis training session, I would rather watch a plastic bag blow around a field. Incase you have't heard Ballyhaunis are in Div 4 of the league and are not looking like they will be promoted. They will struggle to stay in Intermediate in the near future. This is not exactly a very high level. By the way you never answered my qustion, do you think the 2 lads you mention would actualy make the Ballyhaunis team? Also what is your fixation with these 2 lads there are 1 or 2 more there that are't bad players but I guess they are not at the level to play in DIV 4 and the relegation play off in the intermediate championship. BALLHAHAHAUNIS have no need to look down their noses at EASTERN BALES considering both are in the same division of the League!! Brinsley Swartz (Mayo) - Posts: 2225 - 15/08/2009 15:30:17 393236 Link 0 |
