Greatest game of all time

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

What do yous reckon would go down as the greatest game of all time? For me personally the best I have witnessed was the Armagh Dublin semi in 2002, although im sure you'll have your own. Was too young to remember the Derry Down game in 1994, but from clips i have seen and what I hear it was unreal, especially now with hindsight when you see what down went on to do. Maybe one of mayo's all ireland finals, good comedy value in recent times.

That Doire vs An Dun match in celtic park was best I have ever attended followed closely by the infamous Tir Eoghain vs Doire match in 1995 when the red hands were 2 men down and the oak leafers 1 man down. Pure drama.

kIldare V Meath 1st replay 1997 Leinster Championship. O'Rourke later laimed that it was the greatest sporting occasion he'd evr witnessed. Amazingly, RTE didnt cover it live. Niall Buckley man of the match gave the greatest midfield performance Ive seen. Game had it all, controversy, great goals, 2 Meath comebacks, Kildare last minute equaliser, supersub Jody Devine and much much more.AWESOME

ye that was some game. classic stuff from jody that day; four points it was and he basically was the reason the game went to another replay. jody was one of the legends of meath from the boylan era but he never really got that much recognition outside of meath though, probably because sean boylan liked to use him as a bit of a super sub. still when he did come on, he showed everyone what he could do.

For me anyway, obviously, it's the 92 final. When red Declan pointed that free near the end and pumped the fist at the Hogan Stand is a moment that will forever be etched in my memory.

In recent times Mayo's win against Dublin a couple of years ago was some bout. The drawn Dublin Tyrone match was a classic as well. Also Tyrone's drawn game against Louth in 06 was a good spectacle as well.

Most memorable game for me (not necessarily the greatest of all time!) was the 3rd match between Offaly and Clare in the cauldronn of Semple Stadium in 98...anyone that was there will tell you of the deafening noise. Not even a Munster final compares to it. Unbelievable!

Not slagging of the Dubs but the mayo game a couple of year ago was brilliant to watch really exciting (unusaual for most football games of late), Also Down V Derry 1994 I think hopefully Danny Mc or Niamh could help with the year? Excellent display of football. I think down were hammered in the same fixture in 93 and were out for revenge and got it.

Yep dubupnorth - great day, massive travelling support as usual, a sea of red and blue and some classic goals from the Dubs! A few pints in Watergrasshill - a few more pints and the Sunday Game in New Inn in Tipp- and a drive home!!!! Wouldn't do it now!

1982 All-Ireland Final Offaly V Kerry. By far the greatest match i've ever seen, the football was tremendous two of the all time great teams and what a finish, penalty save followed by THAT goal. This really isnt even a contest as far as i'm concerned its the greatest game of all time.

there are numerous candidates for this even in the last few years:

kerry beating the dubs 07
mayo beating the dubs 06
tyrone beating the dubs 05
westmeath beating the dubs 04
armagh beating the dubs 02

etc. etc.

Shamelessly talking up the Tribesmen but the best games I've seen were the '98 final against Kildare. It was a great second half.

And the '01 final against a Meath side who had blown Kerry out of the water in similar fashion in the semi final.

Mayo's fight back against the Dubs the other year was a great game also.

In the Hurling the most recent one that stands out is Waterford v Cork last year.
