378379 How have yee done it in Roscommon at underage? Fair play.

Roscommon do well because the Minors can see they have a route to Playing Senior Football where as in Sligo all the Senior Squad is taken up by Players from outside the County. The Sligo Minors are then latargic in there attitude towards playing Gaelic football.

Oh dear god,it's goin to turn into the Paddyogall/Sligonian show.
Sligonian We started about 2001 doin development panels at u-14 level and kept them together all the way through. They train together, focus on skills, ball work, play divisional matches, east v west north v south etc,so when they come to make a panel at u16 or minor, these guys all know each other and arent goin in as complete strangers. Most of the stronger counties would have this set-up in place for years. We had no choice to step things up because we were get beatin heavily and regularly by Mayo and Galway who are traditionlly very strong at Minor.
In 2005 the first of these panels came through and there were great expectations for them but they were tanked in castlebar by 4-12 ta 0-7.We wondered were we doin things right at all,but then the lads came through to make history in 06.It has progressed well enough and despite not winnin a provincial title since, our main aim was to be able to compete with Galway and Mayo, our record against them from those development panels is
vs Mayo w2 l3 d1
vs Galway w2 l1.
So progress is bein made and hopefully it will happen at senior level in a few years, which of course is where it really matters.

Whether young O'Connor had been on the field earlier or not is irrelevant, he could only come back on if he had been blood substituted. When Tyrone brought Peter Canavan off and back again in '05, they used up a sub... they didn't get some sort of free exchange. If a rule was broken, Roscommon have one problem... they are not well represented amongst the ranks of sports journalists, some no one is jumping up and down about a technical rule break. If the boot were on the other foot, even if most Kerry supporters were willing to let it pass, one or two of their journalists would be looking to make a story out of it and would be pushing for a replay. Cork broke a rule (a player got 2 yellow cards, stayed on and influenced the result) in the minor A-I a few years back, and all protests fell on deaf ears. The Cork County Board could have volunteered a replay, but they rather unsportingly didn't... based on that precedent, ye probably have very little chance of getting anything out of this... but it should be looked into by the GAA and a proper verdict issued.

Don't teams have to submit teamsheets before a match. If extra-time is a completely new game shouldn't they have to re-submit teamsheets?.

too late, the appeal was lost on the grounds that as many changes can be made to the line up between the match and extra time, then three subs during :-(

I hope and pray that our county board let common sense prevail here and don't appeal the result. We were beaten fair and squre and an appeal(which would most likely thrown out)would reflect badly upon us and show us up as bad losers.I hope this is the end of it.Good luck to Kerry for the remainder of their campaign.

Take yer beating like men and stop complaining, kerry were deserved winners. Im confident in saying Roscommon have one of the best underage setups in Ireland at present, behind my own county though as we have been up at the top table on regular occasions but in saying that ye should be very proud of yer minor in 06

anyone else think it should be up to the linesmen to decide whether a team has used enough subs? they dont do a whole lot else may as well give them some job! these stuations arise every year! its easy for a manger to lose count of the number of subs they have made in the heat of battle! they have enough to worry about! easy mistake to make!

The word from CP is that Kerry were quite within their rights to use a further 8 subs. Not a lot of people know that.Lets leave it at that but the next time we go down to Kerry we'll expect a round of beer on the house!
In similar circumstances for a Senior match you can play 5+15+3=23 subs.Thats the official position.

That might explain why the Dubs were using 30-something players in their challenge matches leading into the championship... Gilroy must have been preparing for extra-time games... now that really is being thorough!
