Top three GAA moments

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

1. Without a doubt 92. Beautiful day and the lasting memory is Declan Bonner going down "injured", the ref blowing for fulltime and Bonner jumping up for joy! Miraculous recovery!

2. The league win in 07. Not a big deal for many counties but our first silverware in 15 years and without doubt a great day. Brilliant atmosphere as well.

3. I know we lost the game but the All-Ireland semi v Armagh in 03 was a special day. A fantastic game although many injustices felt on the Donegal side due to the ref (I'll never forgive that Gerry Keaveney or whatever he's called). Christy Toye's goal was absolute magic that day, showed the short passing game at it's best. Unfortunately we don't do it enough!

Damian O'Reillys point was in 92 rex and perhaps you are referring to Raymond Cunninghams "point" vs derry?

All great moments though! I remember the point v donegal cos I was sitting in line with the 13m line under the stand on those concrete benches that used to run the whole way round Breffni! Class.

1) The emotion on wee Peter's face when he lifted Sam in 2003 - puffing out his cheeks and all that.
2) Brian Dooher letting Cormac McAnallen know that he had a second AI - the trembling hands.
3) Kieron McGeeny overpowering that Australia boy with a vice like head lock.

3. canavan free v armagh..i would think he hasnt scored a sweeter freekick than that one!

neutral
1. maurice fitz sideline
2. ciaran mcdonald point to put out the dubs
3. (this is a random one) 2005 tyrone v dublin replay the dubs wer about 6 points behind, they then made a bit of a comeback and pulled it back to about 3, but the noise the dublin crowd made during them few minutes was amazing, hairs on the back of the neck stood up! ne1 know the period im talking about?lol

sam09 i do indeed know the period you are talking about - it was the 10 minutes just after half time - it was easily the best atmosphere i ever experienced at a sporting event - was quite intimidating though.

Bocerty, ii know exactly what you're saying. That's why they are the best fans. It is intimidating isn't it when they get their voice. Like you said hair on the back of the neck stuff. Cant wait for the game on Monday and I'm sure there'll be plenty of that at the match. Noise levels will be a multiple of that if they beat us in a close game which I expect will happen. Serious atmosphere.

For me the top 3 moments would be

Darby's goal in 82 - Shellshocked as a young boy. My first time feeling like my world had caved in. thought we'ld never win another game. A real education. Of course 83 was just the same against Cork.
Armagh winning Sam in 02 - we were shellshocked but the shear delight of the Armagh fans made it unforgetable. Awesome.
Declan O'Sullivans Goal against the Dubs in 07... best moment of the most atmospheric emotional enthralling game I've ever been at.

1. Doohers point last year in the final. sheer inspiration. watching it from the hill and see such a small man take those hits and slice it over was magical.

2. Maurice Fitz' sideline against Dublin. the ball literally lokked like going twenty yards wide. then it started to curl and i was like no it's not possible and then drifted over. funny thing about it was that dara o 'se came over and tried to take the ball off him

3. Tyrone winning AI in 2003. As simple as the feeling i got in my stomach when the whistle went. i had finally felt what it was like for your county to win it and no matter what tyrone do from here that was soo much better.

By the way this is only in my own lifetime: Kerry fan: 1. Maurice Fitz's point in Thurles against the Dubs. Could any other player have done it in the circumstances?? 2. Kerry vs Dublin sf '06. Fist time I ever saw the two clash in Croker. Have never experienced an atmosphere like it, great football. Hopefully we'll have the same result Monday. 3. Donaghy's arrival in Croke Park in '06 when he left Francie on his back-side and scored that goal to help us get revenge on Armagh. Neutral: 1. To witness the colour and emotion in '02 when the sea of orange poured into Croke park was a painful pleasure to watch. If your going to lose to an AI final I can honestly say there is no better team to lose to. No goading, just pure joy. 2. Cork vs Waterford Munster final '04. Paul Flynn scoring a goal only he could imagine scoring, Ken McGrath putting in a breathtaking performance. This was the game that really put waterford hurling on the map. 3. Can't really remember the exact score but I think it was th AI sf between Galway and Kilkenny in '05 where it ended up 5-18 to 4-18 or something like that (I'm sure one of ye will tell me the correct score). But it was an unbelievably exciting match. It was almost like tennis...end to end stuff. Unreal!!
