I posted in a thread last week that there have been many concerts in Croker over the past several years yet the only time we hear from the residents is when U2 are playing. They get free tickets and money into their associations and I also heard Peter McKenna on radio confirm that they had been offered hotel accommodation. shanedublin (Dublin) - Posts: 47 - 28/07/2009 18:21:30 366824 Link 0 |
They have no right to complain if they were offered free tickets to the concert and accomodation. What will they get from this if the pitch is not ready they will have ruined Sunday for people travelling from Cork, Donegal, Kildare and Tyrone and then again on Monday for the fans of Dublin and Kerry. So just over 160,000 people will have there weekend/bank holiday ruined. Galway11 (Galway) - Posts: 570 - 28/07/2009 18:32:12 366844 Link 0 |

An absolute disgrace, i doubt any of them predate croke park so they shouldn't have any claim to protest, should build a stadium out in Punchestown to get away from such problems, surely the money they get from touting tickets could have been spent on earplugs. chuckiearla (Kildare) - Posts: 30 - 28/07/2009 18:46:22 366876 Link 0 |
I have the greatest of sympathy for anybody living near to a stadium like Croker. Howwver, they are adequately compensated. Why else would these talks have succeeded. Did they work not go ahead anyway?? Of course it did. the resdienst were just looking for more sweetners! Real Louth fan (Louth) - Posts: 3157 - 28/07/2009 18:52:20 366892 Link 0 |

I think they are 100% right to protest! If there was a building site next to you aloud run 48hrs straight you would complain, should not be aloud. the compensation they get is for the inconvenience of matches nd concerts. this is outside that! This simply should not of been aloud go ahead!! mozsyh (Kildare) - Posts: 172 - 28/07/2009 19:29:33 366959 Link 0 |
They must have got free tickets for football over weekend as there stopped the protests a joke us the normal poeple pay for tickets and they get them free . Tomaoo7 no need to ring anyone we all know why they protested . Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 28/07/2009 19:31:34 366962 Link 0 |

hah dell they dont get free tickets,me uncle lives there and he told me today when i asked him that the residents group are a given a small number of concert tickets and then they have a raffle.he never heard about free hotels niether and id hardly believe that ,there wouldnt be enough hotel rooms in the city, there is more houses around croker than you think.anyway it doesnt bother him too much as he actually sits out his back and has a beer when the concerts are on.he reckons its just a load of old biddys with too much time on there hands and would moan about anything. finglas full ba (None) - Posts: 636 - 28/07/2009 19:36:30 366973 Link 0 |
But surely the people chose to live beside the largest stadium in the country and have to expect some noise? The character is defined by a stadium that has been there for nearly a century and from what I'm told the residents are well compensated with tickets for events that take place in Croker. baldur (Dublin) - Posts: 4 - 28/07/2009 19:38:39 366977 Link 0 |

Perhaps there were people who owned those houses before Croke park was built? Also, think about it realistically, their house won't be worth much with regards location etc. On the issue of the Hotel, if there was a family with a newborn baby I don't think that moving everything they need to a Hotel is exactly ideal situation, and free tickets an 80 year old women I would say would prefer a good nights sleep opposed to tickets to U2. All these people are asking is for the workers to work in daytime hours so that their sleep will not be disturbed. Surely you can understand that? Also, stop judging everyone else by your own standards, just because you would like free tickets to a U2 concert and a night in a Hotel doesn't mean everyone would. Also when I say owned before Croke Park was built that also means it was in their family. Niamh (Derry) - Posts: 2397 - 28/07/2009 19:43:43 366988 Link 0 |

I lived on Clonliffe for 7 years. Was always approached by this crowd to protest against the GAA but they were asking the wrong man. I loved living beside Croker and I always told them where to go. thykingdomcome (Kerry) - Posts: 1206 - 28/07/2009 20:10:18 367033 Link 0 |
maybe they should have protested before the concert, after all u2 wont play there for at least two years again.. HokeyPokey (Tyrone) - Posts: 1744 - 28/07/2009 20:35:55 367068 Link 0 |

By the way, its a myth about free tickets. the residence association represents about 2,000 households and I know for a fact having lived there that tickets are not handed out to them. I also know for a fact because it is not published in freely available ticket allocations. thykingdomcome (Kerry) - Posts: 1206 - 28/07/2009 20:50:04 367091 Link 0 |
