Croke Park residents

Now i see they where holding protests of not letting lorrys in to take down stage and doing the same tonight to stop lorrys getting in to put down pitch . Now i agree that concerts should not have been fixed week before a all ireland quarter final games as pitch surely cant be right in 4 to 5 days but these residents get free tickets to concerts and looked after and should not be protesting when there trying to get the pitch done in time .

These people should have thought about these things when they were buying their houses in the vicinity of Croke Park. It comes with the location. If you're going to buy a house right next to Croke Park then you should expect disruption. It's not rocket science. Either that or move somewhere else! A crowd of attention seekers if you ask me. Wouldn't mind but didn't the GAA offer to put them up in a hotel for the night?

think they are complaining about the stage been taken down with round the clock work, 48 hrs or something like that, dont think that they or anyone else would like that no matter where they live

some very narrow minded views on this thread - dont think anyone would stand for having a construction site running 24 hrs a day outside their front door for a week- cant blame them for protesting - its the only way their concerns will be heard.
lived on clonliffe rd for a couple of years and to be honest the place was on lockdown most sundays over a 3 month period - I can see how locals would become fustrated especially those with no interest in the games.

Yes they were offered a hotel.

It was on 9.00pm news on RTÉ news last night but residents rejected it. It just sounds like they want to object full stop although I hear this evening that the protest has been called off.

I hear what you're saying but sure why don't they move out of the area if it annoys them that much. As I stated above, surely they knew what they were getting themselves into when they bought there in the first place.

If you do not like living in a area move that is how simple it is 48 hours would not bother me if the work had to be done and why take the tickets then protest .

If you were digging a road outside my house every Sunday during the summer months and most Saturdays too with an odd Monday night digging thrown in as well, yes I would move house. Or to put it more precisely, I wouldn't have bought there in the first place especially if there was a tradition of you digging there on Sundays over a 125 year period

It is not as simple as just moving out of your home and into a hotel for a period. Elderly people do not like being away from their homes or pets. What about burglars who would be aware of empty homes. It must be terrible for residents who cannot move freely during these events, cant park their cars, go shopping etc. We all enjoy our days out in Croke Park but we have to spare a thought for the locals. The workers dismantling the stage etc overnight creating all the noise would make it very hard for people to sleep and there should be some compensation. A lot of people make money out of these events and i believe the residents should also be compensated !! Imagine trying to get a small child to sleep in the midst of all the din !!
