Who are the dirtiest team?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I'm not talking about those teams most in need of Daz whitening, but about those who employ the "dark arts" so to speak. No need to name individuals just teams.

My opinion would be,

football: Monaghan
Hurling: kilkenny

monaghan arent a dirty team. they play a high intensity game which involves tryin to slow the attacking team down so they can surround them.

would you call tyrone a dirty team just because of the way they are always willing to give away a 13 yard free and to get a yellow card just so they can prevent the opponent from gettin goal chances? i wouldnt

and all opinions offered are totally without bias.

Every team is guilty of indiscipline to some extent. Some teams can disguise their tactics better than others. Some Games/incidents get more exposure than others . Some referees have different approaches to the game , So therefore there is no definitive answer to this question. The best you can do is offer an opinion. I notice that some posters are offering opinions on some teams and I would hazard a guess that they have never been to a game that the county they chose to denegrate have played. Thus if that is the case then your opinion is somewhat questionable.

I don't think that there are any inherent dirty teams in football. Monaghan are physical yes but it is football not netball. They play hard which is one of the essences of the game. Also a good point regards stopping goal chances. Everyone would do it and if not should not be playing. In hurling I would say that Kilkenny are the most physical. I had the good fortune to see them boys train one night when I was down and by god they are hard. Mixed with their undoubted talent this is why they are the best team in Ireland by a country mile. Teams will have to realise that they have to match Kilkenny physically first then with skill. I would also say that Kerry were/are not exactly pussycats. The physical edge mixed with the requisite skill is an absolute necessity to get to the top levels. Tyrone have this in spades now but I remember going to the slaughter of the innocents in Croke Park in 1996 when an undoubtedly more talented Tyrone team were beat back up the M1 by Meath. Wouldn't happen now.

Monaghan are terrible but Kerry are absolutely filthy and nobody says anything about them. the ammount of pulling and dragging they do is a disgrace.

redfoot: when talking about who employ the "dark arts", kerry would be a team to look at. then you have the obvious ones like meath an dublin. meath are not as bad as they were a few years ago when they had the big names, the same for dublin

And all replys are unbiased.

Some teams tactics are better disguised than others. Some referees approach different incidents in different ways. Some games and incidents have greater exposure than others. There is no definitive answer to this. Posters can only offer opinions. There are posters here who at best have only seen their team play one game against the team they have nominated and others who have never seen the team they have nominated so these opinions are suspect. I think it is reprehensible to just make an unfounded and unsubstantiated allegation against a bunch of lads whose only desire is to win a game of football or hurling.
In my opinion the tendency to hit the grass at the first opportunity and seek a free kick or have your opponent sent off is a far greater blight on the game than to pull a shirt or give a free kick away.
