Lads that is a myth, however he did did play abit. The following passage is from the Uefa website.

Meanwhile, Liverpool FC's Spanish midfield player Xabi Alonso has revealed a love of the vaguely savage Irish sport of Gaelic football. Alonso spent time in the Irish town of Kells as a 15-year-old where he was exposed to the game. "I played Gaelic football with some of the local boys. It was very different, very physical," he recalled. "The players should wear crash helmets."

When is that nonsense going to stop? It's old, boring and WRONG!!!

He came here to learn English as a teenager, like so many still do, and kicked a bit of ball with the locals. All of a sudden he has become captain of an All-Ireland senior football winning side!!
