And a cracking final it was too - finished 3-8 a piece. Town should have won it in injury time but went for goal and got caught out by a square ball when a handy point was on which would surely have won it anyway. Still a draw was a fair result. Couldn't make the game thanks to work, but by all accounts it was a great match. The Real 1944 (Carlow) - Posts: 1114 - 18/10/2009 02:56:57 457532 Link 0 |
St andrews were robbed yesterday as it was a perfectly good goal, video eveidence from the nationalist can justify that...he was outside the square when he started running and john doyle made a perfectly legal handpass...how could the ref see from where he was standing??..i think andrews will win it next week as they only played well in patches yesterday cmcs (Carlow) - Posts: 8 - 18/10/2009 13:37:59 457689 Link 0 |

Hard to say who will the replay.... both teams had their chances to win the game and I think that both teams can play better than they did last Saturday. Alan Kelly was class for Ballon while John Doyle for St. Andrew's was also excellent. The goal looked good and the Nationalist website view of the goal ... it looked ok. carlowman (Carlow) - Posts: 1883 - 19/10/2009 19:35:58 459366 Link 0 |
Having looked at it a few times on the Nationalist I'm inclined to think it was a square ball but just about. Onion Breath (Carlow) - Posts: 1629 - 19/10/2009 20:38:27 459470 Link 0 |
Onion Breath you're the only person who said that. But your entitled to your opinion. hurlingguru (Carlow) - Posts: 1849 - 19/10/2009 22:02:04 459570 Link 0 |
First of all-a wonderful final. I had to be dragged into it but it had me on the edge of my seat throughout. Had a paternal foot in the Ballon camp and their third goal was a great moment. Thought that Ballon made a huge mistake letting O'Leary take that penalty, he was never going to have the composure and hit it very badly. Surely Alan Kelly would have be a better option. Regarding the controversy at the end-with Moran reffing it and the game close at the end there was only ever going to be one result-a draw. I think it would have been very unfair on Ballon to lose-they put in a fantastic hour. But at the same time the St Andrews goal was perfectly legitimate. Fantastic entertainment it was!! ballygowan (Carlow) - Posts: 70 - 19/10/2009 23:08:03 459667 Link 0 |
Thought the final was very entertaining however st andrews were robbed..........ballon came out of the blocks well in both halves but st andrews had the strength to finish well...........the goal should of stood and the ref should owe up to his mistake...............town will come out all guns blazing nex time i maintain town win by 5pts? carlowfootball (Carlow) - Posts: 4 - 20/10/2009 11:10:56 459975 Link 0 |
Ballygowan you obviously haven't been at too many ballon matches.how is it a huge mistake letting o leary take the penalty.he has been brilliant all year, is ballons main free taker (kelly takes them from the right) and has been a model of consistency from placed balls as well as from play.he scored 1-6 in the quarter final, 1-4 in the semi final and 1-4 in the final. one of these goals was a penalty and the rest from play. even the best players miss penalties. i believe if he had of scored it, ballon would of went and won the game as bagnalstown went straight up n scored a penalty of their own. this is a 6point turn around. bagnalstown will definitely feel hard done by with the disallowed goal at the end but it would of been harsh on ballon who gifted bagnalstown two soft goals in the first half. Alan kelly is always a class act and is one of the best in the county. the two goals he scored against the cocks where the best goals i've seen this year and i've been to alot of games this year at all grades. i think the replay will be very tight again but i think ballon have the quality to get over st. andrews if they dont make as many mistakes this time. tommy23 (Carlow) - Posts: 1 - 20/10/2009 11:18:31 459986 Link 0 |
