Nothin againt Tyrone lads. They're the team of the decade and play with a great system and I for one enjoy the way they play. What I was saying is its the system and not the individual that makes them what they are. Just feel this year Dublin and Kildare would have the gameplan to bring them down. Gilroy seems to be very astute and McGeeney would know enough about Tyrone to have Kildare play a winning game. derfil1 (Kildare) - Posts: 1612 - 20/07/2009 12:13:45 352858 Link 0 |
I think with Mayo and Galway having met eachother, all contenders (favourites and the pack) have now played at least one game against which to measure their prospects. From what I've seen, Tyrone look to be in the best health - they've come through all matches with no great stress, taking good scores and making it look easy (like Kilkenny do in hurling). That being said, even though they're virtually alone now in being able to give Kerry a dose of pre-match yips, they don't have the same pyschological effect on many other sides (maybe the Dubs after last year?). So if they meet Cork, Galway, Mayo, or a fully rehabilitated Dubs, they'll have to find one of their higher gears, and that's sometimes not easy to just turn on (they might find themselves suffering from the same malaise that has afflicted the Dubs during the previous 4 years, where they found themselves off the pace once outside of their own province). I don't agree that whoever beats Tyrone will win the A-I, unless that team beats them in the final itself. I don't think Antrim will beat Kerry, in spite of their problems (the draw has given the Kingdom every chance this year), and I expect Kildare, Limerick (if they can keep the hurlers on board) and Galway to make up the remainder of the last 8, so there won't be any 'easy' Q-F... Bear in mind that the Q-F draw won't be completely unrestricted - Mayo can't meet Galway, Cork can't meet Limerick, and the Dubs can't meet Kildare (since these were all provincial final pairings), so only the Kingdom would be completely open to meet any of the provincial winners. There's still a long way to go in deciding which path Sam takes home this year, and I expect to see a few twists and turns in it... Pericles (Mayo) - Posts: 2521 - 20/07/2009 12:40:51 352948 Link 0 |
McGeeney didnt have much luck outsmarting Tyrone as a player when in mattered in 2003 final or 2005 semi final. His managerial record will be similar if Kildare draw Tyrone. Flanders (Galway) - Posts: 604 - 20/07/2009 12:42:01 352951 Link 0 |
derfil while optimism is useful as a supporter can i suggest that dublin and kildare the pick of them couldnt beat tyrone. neither one of them have a defensive player that would make tyrones bench. both full back lines havent a clue. tyrone will man mark the two brogans and forget about the rest as the other 13 wouldnt get on the tyrone team, as for kildare their big hard workin much like armagh but lack class in a number of areas especially up front. the only team that can beat tyrone is kerry and with a handy draw against mayo or dublin next time out they will be in the final once again for part 4 this time its personal as them and the southern media need to get tyrone finally out of the way. 6 years ago it was the big 3 which has become now the big two and after this year will be the big one and it aint going to be kerry. reddoctor (Tyrone) - Posts: 1241 - 20/07/2009 13:01:31 353016 Link 0 |
It's wonderful what an over-abundance of punditry has done to the layman. We're talking about a team not coping if they have to face another team that runs at them. I've yet to see a game where both teams have not run against each other. People talking about it as if it's a tactic that hasn't been tried before. Arrggh, they're running at us! Bring back the days when people said we couldn't cope with a high ball. We could cope with the not coping of that better than the not coping of running. milo (Tyrone) - Posts: 238 - 20/07/2009 13:27:34 353087 Link 0 |

its tyrones to lose they may get a little fright but i can not see them been beaten i think they are just at their peak of their powers in terms of age and football ability wise it will take a special team to beat them and i can not see one out there they could easily win three in a row hipster (Dublin) - Posts: 2509 - 20/07/2009 16:14:11 353515 Link 0 |
