Pace and complacency will beat Tyrone?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

The Sunday Game panelists pointed out that when Antrim ran at Tyrone that Tyrone had no answers. Is this there weakness along with complacency that will be their undoing?

Will they be exposed and dumped out by the likes of Cork and Mayo?

The only chance that complacency could have beaten Tyrone is gone now, because from here in it's all business. They lose, they're gone, and they'll probably be playing one of the bigger teams next time out anyway.

That leaves pace. Cork or even Dublin may trouble them with their strong runners from deep. I expect Cork or Tyrone to win it outright.

Don't think they'll be complacent - Harte & Kavanagh definately played down their performance.

They are a great side but I have to agree. Tyrone can be very vulnerable when you run straight at their half back line and put them on the back foot. That said if you DO happen to take a score or two off them they will just go up the field and hit you with three or four right back. Tyrone's vulnerability at the back is offset by the best 6 forwards in the country and the best individual players in Cavanagh, O'Neill, Dooher, Gormley and the McGuigans. The team that beats them will win SAM.

From the terracing the complaceny was hard to watch but I always had the feeling that we had another 2 gears ready to go into, I never at any stage thought the result was in doubt. There was a massive support there for Antrim and i suspect this may have worked aginst them. There was serious hype in their county and the players would have felt pressure. They will be good value againt kerry though! Back on the subject, Tyrone have faced plecty of pacy teams and dealt with them. Red herring I'm afraid.

Definetly think its a problem especially as Tyrone players all move with the ball and when they are dispossesed and the opposing team sets up up their attack at speed then we are exposed at the back, leaves alot of room for their forwards.
Complancey shouldn't be a problem this year, apart from the quarter final, key game to see where Tyrone are at! Kerry maybe?

The hype over tyrone at the minute is stupid and annoying we are still no where near the finishsed article or required standard to be winning in September

every team struggles against sides that move the ball quickly and accurately. tyrone are no exception but they are best equipped to deal with it. that's why they are the favorites but they could be beaten if a team hits top form against them.

to be honest omaghjoe, there hasn't been an awful lot of hype so far, its been all very softly softly, one step at a time approach, the players seem fairly relaxed and focused, as did Mickey today. There will be no bunting and flags just yet!

Brend I know there hasnt been alot of hype in Tyrone so far either with the supporters or within the camp.
But the pundits and critics are already talking like we have won the bloody thing and we are the best thing since sliced bread, pure codswallop. Talking about Tyrone cruising, cruising means that you aren't playing well in my book, but they talk about it like its a positive thing, there is a lack of intensity so far this year that is worrying. W are gonna have to up our gam 100% for the quarters

Spot on, run at any team and they are in trouble.

In the quarters Tyrone could be undercooked if they came up against say an all cylinders firing Galway or something. Tyrone remember have only made THREE semis in the decade.

In short they can be vulnerable at that stage. They have won three Sams when they got past the quarter.

For no sensible reason, I still think the Dubs will win it, after Tyrone go out.

the qualifiers will after the latest draw probably produce kerry galway meath and kildare, so the complacency aspect will be a non runner. antrim did run at tyrone and caused some problems granted. but joe mcmahon and dooher have been carrying knocks and are not match fit, davy harte is a yard slow but always has been as is gormley and mcmenamin. now the problem for the other teams are okay lets expose these slower players by putting our pace guys on them you leave a mountain of holes for the rest especially cavnagh. also mcmenamin and gormley will tackle hard very hard and most fliers tend to be quick for a lot of reasons if you know what i mean (paddy bradley for example) antrim got 40 % of posession in the game yesterday in a very open game and never looked like winning. tyrone will geta nice stiff test prior to cork in the semi and when that is won sam is in the bag,as we will have a home banker against the dubs or mayo.

The only thing Tyrone learned from this match is that S O'N is not match fit! Jordan,Mulligan,Ricey and Cavanagh all were outstanding . Wee are Tyrone No if No But's no maybe's TOTAL FAITH IN WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO. KING'S OF ULSTER

As a Tyrone supporter, the one team that I fear (I cant believe I'm going to admit this on HS by the way, the mafia will have a field day) is Mayo. Tyrone never perform against Mayo and they are a team who have consistently outplayed us over the years. One of the Sunday game panelists, think it was Brolly, made the point that this was because Mayo incessantly attack at pace. He also made the point that Mayo had no real system of play the way Tyrone had. Although I think this has changed with their "Twin Towers" approach in Moran and O'Shea.

Tyrorne are overrated. They've maybe 3 class players and the rest are just workhorses. Either one of Dublin or Kildare will send them home this year given the chance.

Completely agree with you omaghjoe. I know I go on about it a bit but remember Meath 2007 we cannot let this happen again.

Tyrone have flaws but they are far better than anyone else maybe the cork half forward line with Pierce O'Neill can cause them problems

I think he's trying to say that Stephen O'Neill is not match fit.

Derfil from Kildare, are being serius? Just 3 class players, Cavanagh, Dohoor, O'Neill, Mulligan, Gormley, Ricey, Jordan, Davy Harte, need I go further? Tyrone would do the same to Dublin as they did with them last year, and as for Kildare it would be twice as bad, youse couldnt even beat an overrated Dubs team when youse had an extra man.
