Ah lads kickin a team when it's down is 2easy. Cork will be back stronger than ever next year when they can prepare properly for the year without distractions... Ar.an.talamh (Kildare) - Posts: 320 - 19/07/2009 14:27:01 351541 Link 0 |
lowerormond what defeatest meant was people are just jealous of Cork in general. To be honest I don't agree with him but there are some lads who just want to make hurtful posts in an attempt to wind us up. We knew this was coming and we will not fall for the bait. I went to my first All Ireland in 1966 and in past 41 years have been lucky enough to see my County play in 27 All Ireland Finals (hurling & football) our record as far as my memory goes in those games was 14 wins 12 losses and 1 draw. I was also at many other All Irelands and witnessed Offaly's breakthrough against Galway and Clare against Offaly. All in all I consider myself lucky to be from Cork and to have had the opportunity of enjoying all those finals, we enjoy our wins and we accept our defeats, last night was a defeat and we accept it and acknowledge that Galway were the better team and wish them luck. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 19/07/2009 15:08:20 351557 Link 0 |
I dont think Cork will be back stronger next year. They are now a long way off the top 2/3 teams. Like all the top counties (Tipp, KK, Galway) they will always have plenty of players but think a genuine all-ireland challenge is 3 years away. At the earliest. The fact they lost yesterday is nothing to do with the strike more about them not being good enough anymore. Hope they do go on strike, would be great to see some new excuse or reason they have this year for being rubbish! SirShaughs (Limerick) - Posts: 388 - 19/07/2009 15:27:19 351566 Link 0 |
SirShaughs From what I saw yesterday I'd be more concerned about Limerick then Cork if I were you. Spoke to Limerick lads who were at Clare/Limerick under 21's and they said there was nothing at all coming through, they were very despondent about the future. I accept there is a gap opening between Cats/Tipp/Galway and Waterford and the rest but if you have been following hurling as long as I have you will know that things can change very quickly from year to year. At 63 mins yesterday there was a point between the sides, Cannings blocked effort could have gone anywhere it just fell nicely for Gantley on such things are games decided. Now don't get me wrong Galway were the better team and deserved their win but it was that close. Against Laois ye were awful and to be honest I thought the ref. gave ye everything. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 19/07/2009 15:46:45 351582 Link 0 |
corkcelt: i agree we were awful yesterday and i would use alot stronger language than that but will refrain for now. I think we are prob alot better than we showed but Laois may also have been better than given credit for. The poor start and the slog against wexford last saturday prob did not help. But we were very wasteful particularily in the last 20 minutes. THis Cork team is full of battle hardened men in Sean Og, the O'Connors, Ronan Curran, Tom Kenny, John Gardiner and these are great hurlers and can be relied upon to give their all everyday. I just think that ye have slipped a long way in 3 years and it will take plenty of time to re-build as i think the current Tipp & Galway sides are at the start of great teams, KK are just amazing at present with no end of talent in sight. I would say that Waterford are on the way down. We are at a low but with teams like ourselves, Clare, Wexford, Offaly & Waterford we can go for a long time with poor teams. I think we are presently looking to rectify it by putting in place a youth structure similar to the one that has been in place in Tipp for the past 5 years. patrique...not enough time to redress? Are you for real? The 'Cork 2008 Panel' were openly holding training sessions infront of the media when there was a training ban on intercounty panels in the period before Christmas. Their 'two fingered to the world' approach did not reap them the benefits they aspired to for this year, and in one sense, backfired on them. They bullied their way into getting what they wanted, and had little regard for McCarthy, as a human being, when they were doing it! Its time for them to go back to the drawing board, take responsibility for their performances and stop playing the blame game that they have been playing. cailin (Wexford) - Posts: 143 - 19/07/2009 16:36:16 351633 Link 0 |
cailin knowing patrique he was speaking tongue in cheek. Wexford hurling panel got rid of Meyler, Waterford panel got rid of Justin! corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 19/07/2009 16:51:37 351647 Link 0 |
I dont think Cork will be back for a few years, alot of big players will prob step down as they are getting on in the years. theblindassasin (Meath) - Posts: 915 - 19/07/2009 16:57:09 351654 Link 0 |

Sure who's being sarcastic lads? We all know how professional these cork lads are in their preparations. Professionals in every way except for the fact they dont make any financial gain from the gaa. Ahem. So it cant possibly be their fault? They should strike until they get a proper mentor in who will guide them to many all irelands and will bring out their true greatness whiterbannnas (Mayo) - Posts: 2441 - 19/07/2009 20:05:35 351903 Link 0 |
Let them strike! They make more of an impact when they're on strike when they're playing! dammon (Meath) - Posts: 1291 - 19/07/2009 20:10:51 351919 Link 0 |
Any truth in the rumours the GPA are calling a whole strike on the championship until cork are reinstated into the championship into a semi-final (with kilkenny on the other half)?? In the No (None) - Posts: 66 - 20/07/2009 00:33:21 352438 Link 0 |

Well they did likewise to Ger Mc so they can't expect any better. No they didnt. it's very easy to come on here after a defeat and just rub it in.... jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 20/07/2009 10:37:36 352651 Link 0 |
Paddy Power won't even take bets on them striking. Arther Scargill didn,t strike as much as those boys. Sure didnt one player retire already over having to wear a helmet next season. The helmet issue might be a reason to strike in September or that the kit washer didnt use the right softner. thesteiner (Meath) - Posts: 165 - 20/07/2009 10:40:48 352661 Link 0 |
Cork have over 120 all ireland titles, both codes. The next best county have barely half that. I suppose its natural for those from weaker counties frustrated from their lack of success to be angry and jealous. Redfoot (Cork) - Posts: 388 - 20/07/2009 11:11:27 352711 Link 0 |
Didn't support the strike but theres no need to slagging off these fellas. They have been the second best team of the 00s and they gave it their best on Saturday. Game would be the poorer without the likes of Sean Og, Gardiner, the O'Connors etc. They showed plenty of fight and thought the half backs were excellent but they had little up front. Aisake is not even a good senior club standard full forward. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 20/07/2009 11:33:44 352757 Link 0 |

Alotta posts here from counties that have achieved nothing to say the least!!The likes of O Hailpin, the two O Connors, and a few more of these lads have given massive service and entertainment to Cork and the public, say what you like about them, they are not men,but GIANTS!!Not many of them in MAYO whiterbannas, your recent all ireland performances are disasterous!!IE V KERRY,GAME OVER AFTER TEN MINS!! arabrebel (Cork) - Posts: 42 - 20/07/2009 20:23:03 354076 Link 0 |
Arabrebel, all of those players you mentioned have given every one of us great entertainment as we spent most of the winter laughing at them while they were on strike. How dare they think they should have a say in who the county hurling manager should be. theblindassasin (Meath) - Posts: 915 - 20/07/2009 20:33:31 354094 Link 0 |
