Ciaran Joyce from Trim should be looked at, one of Trim's best players this year in both codes. He has the tenacity needed at this level and is not afraid to get in there where it hurts.

Personally I think one of the best players in this county is alan fox. He runs the show for the tones
and never goets near a meath team. Just because he's not 6 foot he's overlooked but I've watched
the tones over the years and in my opinion he the best player they have and would be an ideal palyer for the

Here are a list of some of the best club players that weren't involved with the Meath championship panel in 2009, in my opinion. I'm not saying that all of them are good enough for intercounty football, or should even be involved in the panel next year, but they are players worth considering. I have seen these players a number of times over the last few years. However, there are some clubs that I have not seen regularly enough to comment on their players and would appreciate if anyone had an opinion of these players. Also, would appreciate it if anyone had players from both the intermediate and junior grades who they felt might be a decent addition to the panel. Navan O'Mahonys: Henry Finnegan..intelligent player with pace who can kick scores...Paddy Smyth..very good under the highball and always brings others into the game. Does he have the pace for inter-county though? Wolfe Tones: Ciaran Mc Loughlan...excellent full back, strong, quick, solid..i don't believe he ever got a fair run with Meath. Niall Mc Loughlan..excellent club player who can play in both the backs and forwards. Still noly around 26....Alan Fox...extremely intelligent player. however, size and power are against him. Summerhill: Brian Ennis: Good footballer, comfortable off two feet, but does he lack the pace? Rathkenny: John Donegan...injurys have blighted his intercounty career, but remains an excellent club player when fit. Stong and good under the high ball. However, it does not seem like his body is able for the strains of intercounty training. Simonstown: Niall Mac Mahon... has been s'towns most consistant performer over the last few years. Have heard he is currently sidelined with long-term injury? Shane Carr: He impressed me against Dublin u21's and O'Mahonys this year..strong, quick, only 20 r 21, and a tight marker. Whether good enough for county level at this stage is another question entirely.

Don/ Ashbourne: Ciarna Ellis...electric pace, can kick off two feet, and can take a score. Have only seen him play 3 times, but have been extremely impressed on each occasion. Still very young ,and in my opinion, would be worth a look in o'Byrne cup. Brian Menton...big, strong lad, who can cover ground. Minor this year and I believe one for the future. should be brought in to train with the O'Byrne cup panel to gain experience.
Skryne: Kevin Mulvaney...very good club player, but is he better than the forwards that are already on the panel? Ciaran Lenihan...if he keeps progressing will certainly be one for the future.
Senchelstown: Brian Clarke...another very good club player, accurate and fast, but does he have the size and power to contribute at a higher level?
St Ultans: Ciaran Lynch, very tight and tidy marker who is still very young. certainly would be worth a look in training and possibly O'Byrne cup.
Dunshaughlin: Cathal O'Dwyer...accurate, speedy corner forward. However may be hampered by his size?

A;ias, I am not but your anti-Trim bias is alive and well I see. I was at all of Trim's games this year and he was their best performer but you wouldnt see that as you only see the negative in Trim. I am not saying they are world beaters as they are not but I have noticed your anti trim bias several times on this board.

Lads get real with your posts. Some of the names mentioned here are in their 30's and some well into it at that. Alan Fox, Ciaran mc Loughlin Barry Lynch Scaldy Regan, ard definately the wrong side of 30 and a lot of others are close to it like Ronan Farrelly and Martin Mulvaney. We need some young lads say under 22 with size pace good on the ball and with 2 good feet. I would go for Mickey Newman Kilmainham, Andrew Tormay don/Ash, Stephen Sheppard Wolfetones, Gerry Farrelly Castletown, Wouldn't mind seeing Rory O'Connor Don/Ash get a chance is big and strong and has 2 good hands Knows how to stand up for himself as well. Of course Shane O'Rourke has to come back in and Alan Nestor.Of course a good management team would sort that out.

Agree that Paddy Smyth is worth a look at he is very strong and very intelligent, a friend told me he is a 1st cousin of Paul Galvin too! Good stock there. The 2 Mulvanys (Skryne) are also very good players but Martin has had some bad injuries. Mark Carey (Senchalstown) is an excellent attacking half back .

I dont persist in "bigging" them up - I made a comment on 1 player and didnt expect to be laughed at the way you did. I have never had a conversation ever with Ciaran Joyce so I dont think I could count him as a friend. I dont think I have predicted Trim for any honours and have admitted that this teams best days are behind them so where the bigging up is coming from I dont know.

Trim is a dual club and giving their teams due support in all codes both juvenile and adult involves quite a few games - not all SFC.

The only senior football club games I go to (outside county semis / finals) are Trim ones so it is natural that I would see Trim players more often, I suggested a player based on those games - there is hardly a whole lot wrong in that. Of course the superior knowledge you have of the Meath football scene is such that you can have a laugh at someone elses contribution.

Literally hundreds of lads in Meath that might be good enough, but Selectors can only pick a panel of 30 or so. If you name a player that should be there, you would have to say who you think he should be there instead of.

They don't meet the standard.One or two players that might be able to make the step up:Andrew Johnson of Dunshaughlin,Stephen Corrigan of Wolfe Tones,I'm not sure have Brian Clarke of Senchelstown or Stephen Kennedy of Summerhill been tried out yet??I think Jamie Queeney is good enough to start.

Mickeys's about 28,played for Cavan about 4 years ago,wasn't a great addition.Brendan o' donnell from Simonstown would be worth a try,fast strong and tenacious in the tackle,versatile also.
