Back in the 1890s Tipp fans had a song about their captain and mighty leader Mick Maher.

And the claeremen had a song/poem about the immortal Tommy Daly

"On the windswept hill at Tulla,
Where the clare folk bury their dead".

great stuff.

Corkcelt: Brilliant stuff! The Clancy's did a great rendition of Thady Quill, but I never heard the history of the song before.

The month it was October and 46 the year,
When Kerry and Roscommon met to make the verdict clear.
Roscommon's captain bragged before the glorious game began,
Today we'll beat the Kingdom sweet at horse or hound or man.

Then up stepped Paddy Bawn Brosnan from Dingle's beautous side,
I fought said he with many a sea and many a raging tide,
As by the Blaskets foaming flank my fishing smack I ran,
There's none will beat the Kingdom sweet at horse or hound or man.

Roscommon's fields they may be green and soft the sheeplands there,
But better far the southener's reared out in the mountain air
There's none will beat the kingdom sweet at horse or hound or man.

Fair play Bad Monkey - that '14 on, 14 was off' is the song that captures most the spirit of the great Dublin team of the 70s. Their last hurrah against Offaly in 1979. By the way, you will hear it sung in pubs after games, often by people who were not born at the time and who never saw those great players in action. Can still make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck!

Martin Codd had another song on Nicky Rackard concerning that great win over Cork in the 1950s with references to Ring and the Cork forwards attacking like torrents from the Lee.

That Gargle, sorry Margo, song from 1992 gives me horrid flashbacks to a time when our club was dominated by a Donegal mafia. It was a hard period being a Dublin supporter in Glasgow. Have to admit it was quite a catchy song.
