CILL MHANTAIN - Wicklow Best XV 1990-2009 1 John Walshe, 2 Ciaran Hyland, 3 Hugh Kenny, 4 Alan Byrne, 5 Mick Murtagh, 6 AN ANOTHER (Always a problem!) 7 Seamus Morris, 8 Pat O'Byrne, 9 Fergus Daly, 10 Leighton Glynn, 11 Ronan Coffey, 12 Ashley O'Sullivan, 13 Conan Daye, 14 Pat Baker, 15 Kevin O'Brien I know I've probably forgotten someone -but in fairness, I'm only starting a bit of a debate - Who have been our quality centre-backs? I'm having trouble thinking of one.

Of Course, Barry O'Donovan of Blessington, great centre half-back. Thanks Dirk

Would put Billy Kenny at centre back myseld. Switching O Donovan to wing back instead of Morris. Walsh was a fine keeper, touch and go with Travers, but I think Walsh as he was in the position longer. Id neary put Trevor Doyle at centre forward instead of Coffey. Had greater impact on games.

how could you even consider pickin the best wicklow team ever wit out trevor doyle an mark coffey could go into the number six jersey as every one knows was an outstandin footballer

No offence but Mark had a tendency to get into trouble. trevor probable much the same, excespt he is an exceptionally talented footballer. Ronan at full forward, would probably agree. We were never blessed with full forwards.

i know every1 has there own opinion but how could you even consider pickin a wicklow team of the past 19 years witout trevor doyle he is 36 years old an still good enough to be on the team today for his free takin along he would score four or five pints a match an mark coffey could fill in the number 6 jersey as every one knows was an outstandin footballer in his day

Curnew you dont seem to know a lot about Wicklow players,Doyle and the Coffeys came onto the Wicklow team as 17 year olds and played into their 30s did your Club have many playing at that time with them.

Am not so sure about the uninterrupted service. Was there not a period where they wouldnt play with the county.. If thats the case they may not merit a position on the time. Pulling on your counties jersey come hail, rain or shine should be motto.

SOReilly I never said uninterupted service perhaps there was a period when they didnt play as was the position with many of the other players mentioned it might have been the time when the Football Manager Moses Coffey got shafted by The County Board but that has nothing to do with their quality when they were on the team and would have played for their County a lot longer than some of the players mentioned here and you might have noted i havnt selected Darren or Ronan on my best team as good as players as they were, and someone mentioned O,Gorman he was a good player but dont think he could be considered on best team in last 20 years didnt play that long anyway.

Pistelero my apologies I took you up wrong. I agree on the O Gorman. Great player but sadly didnt get the time to put himself in contention, Would have probably been a cert for position. Would probably not put either Ronan or Darren on team. Bit patchy. But good players dont get me wrong. Think you have to put former Irish international Pat O Byrne in midfield along with Stafford. Stafford is class, super athlete and will I hope become a household name. T Walshe I feel still has to prove himself in the blue and gold. Though performances this year suggest he is putting that right.
