"not only is cluxton the best keeper at the moment, i honesty, hand on heart think he is the best keeper in the history of the GAA."

Ya he was brilliant when andy moran knocked the ball past him in 06. And last year when he handed kerry the match-winning score. Go back to sleep Liam

WB, show me a single keeper ever who played any sustained first team football who didnt make mistakea. All the great keepers have made big mistakes, everypne of them. I wouldnt swap Cluxton for any keeper in the history of GAA including Paddy Cullen and John O'Leary

I loved the wexford hurling keeper.was it fitzhenry or something? and my favourite football keeper was Nieil Collins for Down wh saved a penalty in the dying minutes of 1994 final to keep us ahead of Dublin. John O leary got the allstar somehow that year

Is Cluxton the greatest keeper of all time, unfortunately for him, people don't make that determination until 20 years or more after they've retired. Usually in GAA circles, that sort of talk is accompanied by a TG4 special. In my own humble opinion I certainly believe him to be the best of the current crop. I've never seen a better shot stopper in the game. Bigger keepers like Connaughton and Murphy have the luxury of taking up that bit more space in front of goals while Cluxton has unbelieveable agility. How many saves do they make where the shot is right at them instead of having to get down or make a huge dive to stop the ball.
Don't take my word for it, just look at the saves he's pulled off over the last 6 years. Derry last year, Tyrone 05, Laois 05 etc.

never said cornor was the best i said he was one of the best- there is no need to make things up holy, you perhaps see whelan as the macho man he tries to portray and ye love that in dublin- i try to look at just ball playing and his nickname is correctly houdini there one minute gone the next- 3 different mayo lads cleaned him in 06 one of the was a half forward- but hey your entitled to your opinion - but the lad has never dominated any decent midfielder and we all know that deep down

as asked above about who never made mistakes- gabriel irwine for mayo i never seem to remember him having a bad game or doing something stupid- that is where cluxton is a bit erratic he could literally do anything

Sorry if I miss quoted you BB, its just that the way you rave about Mortimer, the average poster would be under the impression that you rated him that highly. In response to your post about Whelan, I rate him highly because of the skills he possess. But look we're going way off base here, this post was about best goal keepers.

Always thought John Kerins for Cork was very underrated.

whats skills- when has he ever shown them? has he ever dominated a mayo, kerry, cork, tyrone midfield? no he has always being found wanting against teams with real midfielders that arent just about giving off a hard macho image

no go on tell me how great he is and what he hasnt done? he is one for ya i would take tom walsh from carlow over whelan and a pick of any other dublin player in an instance, ive said it befor he wouldnt make the ballina club team in mayo - with mcgaritty, harte and brady allwho have thought whelan a lesson in midfield play- what are these skill you are on about? noone in the country fears whelan - they do fear mc garitty, o se, cavanagh, murphy etc

I think if you have a very good defence you do not need a great goalkeeper.

Well , plenty of different opinions have been voiced as to who the best present day goalkeeper is. Some posters (Liam) have even gone as far as naming Stephen Cluxton as the best keeper of all time. So , who do you all think deserves this title? I'd go for John O'Leary closely followed by the likes of Charlie Nelligan , Billy Morgan & Martin Furlong. Let's hear what you think.

IMO The best goal keeper playing inter-county football at the moment is cluxton.

ya it's cluxton for me by a country mile -he's the only inter-couty keeper nowadays with the courage and skill to actually KICK the ball when he gets posession, excellent shop-stopper, good under the high ball (even tho he's not the tallest).

Whether he's the greatest of all time is difficult to say. Comparing different generations is difficult. Keepers in by-gone days used get a cheer for catching a under-hit point attempt and then belting the ball as far as they can to no-one in particular. But then again in modern football, on average keepers these days have to make far less actual saves in the course of a season cos of the way the game is played.

I think you'd struggle to find anyone in GAA history better than him o be hones although historic comparisons are by their nature arbitary.

Back to the Whelan stuff, change the record BB. To say that Whelan - a two time All-Star (remind me again where McGarrity's and Brady's are) doesn't posses any skill just shows that you're back to you're usual rantings. I'm sure it was all favoritism by the dubs as to why he got those all stars of course. Whelan has never done well against a real midfield you say, he has played other games than that one game against Mayo in 06 which you keep harping on about.

I don't rise to this bait so if you want to go on and on with your usual tirade go right ahead, won't be bothering with a reply.

Don't blame me for this WB, look back at earlier posts where I tried to bring the post back to goalkeepers and BB had to bring out his Whelan material
