Yep, i was in the stand and saw the incident directly across from me. A member of the crossmolina team punched Mc Garrity from behind off the ball into the left side of the face. Absolute disgrace that the player in question didn't even get a card. Linesman had to have seen it because i was directly behind the linesman and i saw it clearly. The injury seemed to be in the area of the left cheekbone rather than jaw because thats were ice was being applied to on the sideline. The fact that John Maughan said that his player did nothing wrong and it was a clash of heads is a joke, he was a further 20 metres down the sideline and had no chance of seeing the incident.

I was there as a neutral (mainly to see McD). TOTALLY DISGUSTED WITH CROSSMOLINA. It looks like McGarrity was targareted. The incident was not seen by the ref, umpires or linesmen. Match was videoed (by crossmolina) but the incident was off the ball. Personally i dont think that acts like that OFF THE BALL should be dealt with by the gaa, they should be dealt with by the courts. Ref let game go out of hand which resulted in two later red cards. Was not impressed by behaviour of crossmolina fans either.

There is this perception out there that Crossmolina are a team of Angels. I have seen them numerous times trying to Bully Ballaghaderreen and Charlestown with dirty tactics. Ballina were on the receiving end yesterday and McGarrity. They are on a mission to get the title back this year but Certainly they have a few players who i wont delve into, And a few more seeming angels have a bad discipline record for on the field and the county board need to clamp down heavy. Also the worst team in Mayo for verbals as my sources tell me

The crossmolina player went out to make a name for himself by hitting the county star midfielder and he did......

Player that hit him should get suspended for year and Cross should be thrown out of all championship competions same as happened in derry after Conway insident. Lets see does Mayo co. board have any guts.

On the gaa website it says it was an accidental collision.. I guarantee nothing will be done about this...There were a number of witesses to this incident and legal action should be considered. Foul play won the day... It's sickening

why is the player involved in this incident being referred to as the young man involved or whatever else and not being named? i presume that with all the people who posted being at the game that someone must know who the culprit is. is this guy not being named for legal reasons or has administration blocked the neming of the guy responsible. this is a big blow to mayos chances in pearse stadium. it will be interesting to see who o mahony brings in. he has plenty of options though

cross havnt won it since 06. back n their hay-day they wudn't have done this. they know themselves football alone won't win da county 4 them this year their team is getting old, nd its last chance saloon 4 a lot of their players. so im not surprised this happened at all. nasty and uncalled 4.

The players name is being blocked from being named on this website. Anyone at the match, a crowd in the region of 1000, knows who the crossmolina player is....

Anyone who doesn't know just look at the match reports in Western/Mayo News. The guy was taken off early in the second half. Have to say that the ref lost the game. I was a neutral at the game and thought that Liam Brady came in for some very hard treatment but he should be big enough to just take it. Thank God Harte and Gardiner came through unhurt. Some of the tackles on them were a little dangerous at times.

Saw it all yesterday in Ballina.A deliberate and pre meditated assault,no doubt.Mc Garrity was taken out. Inept linesmen contributed to the debacle. The player in question escaped unpunished. There were enough neutral and credible witnesses there to make sure that this player could yet face the rigours of the law. Never mind the Connacht final, what about Mc Garritys loss of earnings and trauma caused by pain.? This could be an issue for the courts.
