Luke Dempsey's rant!

To be fair Wexford have allowed an earlier start time because the Offaly hurling match is on the same day. Think we need to accommodate eachother. Why would it be a bad thing for Donegal to allow an different time? If good reason fair enough.

By the way this whole thing about being the busiest day blah blah blah is a load of you know what. Donegal should be glad to get the business in the current economic climate. Make hay while the sun shines and all that.

i think that was ballybofey chamber of commerce point. they'll get far more business from the shoppers than from small number of carlow gaa fans. plus more donegal fans will probably go if the match is set for the evening so the pubs will do a bigger bit of trade.

really these factors shouldn't have had much to do with the timing of a game. sunday afternoon would have been the ideal compromise as i doubt too many donegal and carlow fans are that interested in the hurling or the munster final.

Just back from the game. Brutal stuff. Was chatting to a few Carlow lads in Jacksons who said they came up for the weekend to stay for the craic. Not saying everyone would want/afford to do this but anyway. Just a point about the timing/location of the match. I remember Kerry griping a few years ago about having to travel to Letterkenny for a league game instead of Ballyshannon. In the Donegal Democrat Manus Boyle made a very good point when he said you wouldn't have the Kerry Board paying us to much heed if we started dictating to them where their home league matches should be scheduled.

And now the Banner boys are at it!! This whinging must be catching.
Donegal's county ground is McCool park in Ballybofey. That's where our home games are. The Gardai won't allow games before 6pm. That's the story so get over it.

331350 Would be really interesting if Donegal win and are drawn away to Kerry on Sat 11th July @7:30pm. Any objections to that in Donegal.

Donegal and Kerry met in a league game on a Saturday last year.

I myself had no problem in staying up, as my wife is from God's country and I love going up there. However, the Carlow team were home at 335am after having dinner in The Mill Park on the way home. You can imagine these boys were feeling very sorry for themselves at that hour of the morning after losing by 10 points. There would be no difference to traffic between either 3pm or 7pm, as McElhinney's, the main cause of all traffic, is open until 7! Harps playing the same evening, also didn't help traffic matters. A little bit of common sense should have been used.

On a different matter, the attempt at the Carlow flag in Ballyboffey was disgraceful. It was actually a Mayo flag, with a bit of yellow sewn on top and bottom. The three colours weren't even linear!

Well the Donegal CB and Gardai and Fans can make all the excuses they want, but the digrace is that these games are fixed for Ballybofey when they SHOULD be in Ballyshannon. Bringing Carlow and now Clare up the extra 45mins at 7pm to ballaybofey is a disgrace when they have to pass through ballyshannon on the way. A disgrace, ye use that pitch in Nfl and its not like it wont hold the crowd. Theres the solution, fix it for 3 pm in Ballyshannon would be showing consideration to others and common sense would prevail.

LOL good man. It's the extra 30min up the road that's the problem all right.

Yeah I've seen a few posts on this all right twohop. I'm sure it was annoying to see all right and it's a bit embarassing that we couldn't come up with a decent flag. I'll give you a personal guarantee that we'll have it right next time, even if I have to sew it myself! Is it supposed to be a Tricolour?

Sligonian:

What part of Ballybofey is our county ground do you not get? You've some neck coming on here telling us where Donegal should play their home championship matches. A slight exaggeration but i'ts almost quicker to drive from Clare to Ballyshannon as it is to drive from the likes of Carndonagh or Malin to Ballyshannon.

I can imagine the reaction if Donegal posters started telling Sligo where to play their home games. How about Ballyshannon? Its only 20 minutes up the road?

Dee- It was a joke. Though Ballyshannon is as near to Sligo as it is to Ballybofey give or take a few miles.
Sligonian- It's an absoloute disgrace that your county took Galway as far north as Sligo town when your county board should have had the decency and common sense to fix the game for Tubbercurry....
