Why is Joe Brolly so anti-Kerry?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Just read Brolly's article!!! It is no more than a total attack on Kerry football. Not once this decade has he paid them an ounce of credit, when they have won All Irelands, it has always been a case of "Oh the other team didnt turn up, or Kerry got lucky today" He speaks about Declan O'Sullivan in his article, saying he still runs with the ball! As if this is a bad thing, this is becoming a lost art in the modern game and he is almost condeming it! Anyone have an insight into why Brolly has it in for Kerry so much, apart from Kerry beating Derry the vast majority of the time?

Sean, he never shuts up about how great they are!!!! And for good measure he always throws in a "now i would be no great fan of Tyrone but....."
Brolly is in love with this Tyrone team and in his eyes the rest are meer sideshows!
(for the record i regard this tyrone team as the greatest team i have ever seen in my lifetime)

kerry play the worst most simple style of football that requires less skill and just big men.

Brett Favre, you have just totally contradicted yourself. Firstly you say Kerry are just a bunch of big men who play simple football and that it has no style, yet then you contradict yourself when you say DOS shouldnt be soloing the ball (A football skill you dont see all to often in Sligo) as he needs to kick a quick high ball into beat a blanket defence! Make up your mind, then again you are from Sligo so we'll let you off!

Admiration, respect, maybe jealousy, but i certainly wouldnt say "love".

I'm not a big fan of the chap but lets face it he knows the game inside out. He was the only man that panelist that said Tyrone would beat Kerry in both 2005 and 2008 so I am told and guess what he was right. Maybe this isn't a personal attack maybe he is just right. In terms of love for all things Tyrone his own mother is from the fair and wooded county of Tyrone so it is only natural he has a soft spot for them. Also as a showman in his playing days surely it is also only natural that he loves the best.

Joe Brolly has always disliked Kerry. It's not a new thing. And he's always praising Tyrone. Brolly can't praise a tean without referring to Tyrone. He'll say something along the lines of "County X play a great brand of football, they remind me of Tyrone in the way that they support the runners from defence......". He'll also always have a go at some of the better teams, usually Kerry, by referencing Tyrone and how Tyrone have an edge over a certain county. Brolly always reminds me of Eamon Dunphy using Roy Keane as the yardstick for any midfielder. If I had never known anything about the GAA I'd put my house on Brolly being from Tyrone. It's yet another example of someone from Ulster hanging onto Tyrone's coat tails.

And Niamh, Spillane doesn't have an anti-Derry/Ulster thing. He criticises every county. I've often heard him criticise Kerry. Even for example last weekend he was going on about Kerry's lack of a gameplan and poor fitness. Spillane has also given out about Monaghan and Dublin most notably this year. The difference with Spillane and Brolly is that Spillane will say what has to be said and he doesn't mind who he annoys. Brolly will only say what has to be said as long as they're not from Ulster. Oh actually, just thought of another difference - the amount of medals and awards each has won.

Its for of the same reason they all slate kerry, jealousy. Jealous of their throphy haul, jealous of their ability to play football and jealous of the players they continue to produce. He should be man enough to give them their dues. Dont the bradley lads also carry the ball? Dooher and Cavanagh also? He should take a look at his own county before mouthing off about the best in the business, because you can be sure kerry will be still around when derry are long gone.

Spot on Liam, he has no time for counties outside of Ulster. I think part of this is to counteract Spillane's puke football rants in fairness. I have to say though I get a good laugh out of him. His attempt to defend that Derry performance against Tyrone was comical.
