Not trying to be a WUM here but I actually heard that as well Paddyogall. Don't know if it was a joke or not but what's the story there? How many times would Tyrone have played games where it was played before 2003??? 3inarow08 (Kerry) - Posts: 2455 - 01/07/2009 16:22:23 328982 Link 0 |
Some very honest replies so far.... very interesting! It just shows how strange our little island is... we're messed up on so many levels... it fascinates me to be honest... we can be so full of BS sometimes...! We go on about our Irish Pride! but a huge proportion of people cant utter a couple of lines from our National Anthem....! jimbodub (Dublin) - Posts: 20763 - 01/07/2009 16:25:52 328989 Link 0 |

hand on heart i got a copy of it in english and irish when i was 10 because i was ashamed of myself for not being able to sing it at GAA matches, i learnt it off in both languages and brought it into school and asked our music teacher cud we learn it, if i dint do that no-one n the school would have learned it!! lads its a disgrace if ye don't know it!! premierman21 (Tipperary) - Posts: 429 - 01/07/2009 17:15:48 329026 Link 0 |
Bannnas ... you got the last line wrong as usual ... its "Come On Da DUUUUBBBBBBSSSSS !!!!" Reminds me of the gag where the little old lady won the Dirty Limerick competition and was asked to recite in on Radio. Because she was a bit embarassed she said she would just say "La La" for the dirty bits so off she goes with: La La La La La La La La La La La Lala La La La La La La La La La La ... you effin *%^&*x Know our anthem in Irish since I was a gossur and would have a fairly good idea in English but might have to stop and try a rough translation ... especially the bit about manning the gap (bearna) etc. is where I get stuck in English. I know it but i notice at alot of games i go to(except ulster games) that no one sings it. At some games when you sing it you get funny looks and when it is in croker you get most people staring at the big screen and then pronouncing the words in the worse irish possible. I know all the words. What shocks me is the amount of people who don't know how to salute it, be it at a GAA match, rugby or soccer international. As we know, everyone is supposed to face the tri colour, but few do!! I often find myself turned in the opposite direction facing the flag and everyone else looking at the half way :S TheRevolution (Mayo) - Posts: 487 - 01/07/2009 18:20:47 329113 Link 0 |
Know it in Irish and English and find it very disrespectful when people shout way before the end of it. Yhis doesn't happen at soccer or rugby games but yet always happens before our national games. (I actually started a thread on this a few months ago and most people seemed to have no problem with people shouting half way through) Dr.Shephard (Leitrim) - Posts: 2187 - 01/07/2009 18:32:59 329119 Link 0 |
my whole family sing it loud and proud at every match. its one of my pet hates when people start cheering before the end, how did that ever start? mozsyh (Kildare) - Posts: 172 - 01/07/2009 18:39:24 329127 Link 0 |
