Look it will be the usual stuff wit Mayo.. One win and they think there world beaters.. Without an all ireland for 50 years and think they can abuse us galway people who have won 2 in the last 11 years.. At the end of the day what matters is the silverware and ye sure as hell have none of note.. Grow up and only comment about galway when ye av yer all ireland.. And in that ye will be a long time waiting.. Bogmaster (Galway) - Posts: 121 - 01/07/2009 00:10:20 328268 Link 0 |
love to see the mayo supporters coming on to this forum.by the way these are the same supporters that were calling for johno to be sacked not to long ago.all of a sudden this is a great mayo team, they were very poor at the early stages of the league and again johno had to be sacked, had a good win over a ross team who threw in the towel after 10 mins, and now are going wining al and johno is a great manager.even if mayo win the connacht final there fans will get over confident start writhing song about bring sam home and ther poor players will crack like a cheap watch some things im afraid will never change TheShawl (Galway) - Posts: 23 - 01/07/2009 00:39:21 328295 Link 0 |
Galway were dreadful against Sligo...i was at the game and hav'nt missed a Galway game for years. The current selection would not keep the ball kicked out to Cork or Dublin...for all the talk doing the rounds about Galways younger players coming through, the fact is that the current management are selecting from very much the same pool of players as Peter Forde and the previous regime. These same players lost to Sligo in 07 and indeed Westmeath in 06. Our only intercounty standard players are Faherty, Hanley, Bradshaw, Conroy, Joyce, Meehan, and Armstrong, the other 8 players are poor. Players such as centerback Diarmuid Blake, Matthew Clancy, Coleman, Cullinane, Niall Coyne are at best modestly talented club players. Management seem to have targeted the early league games in each of the last two league programs thereby creating an illusion that an new team was emerging....when we lost to Kerry in our final league game by more than we did in the corresponding fixture last season it can hardly be described as progress. On Sunday, with the hugely talented Nicky Joyce sitting at home, we had JJ Greaney coming off the bench ahead of the likes of Greg Rogan, Damien Reddington, Eoin Concannon, David Warde, Cillin De Paor, or even Greg Higgins....its a ridiculous situation. The Galway management will have to ditch the 'members only' cosy club mentality that has attached itself to the Galway panel. They will also have to ditch their unfounded 'loyalty' which is being shown to some senior players who are so far past their best its embarassing. They should for the good of Galway football start picking players on their club form. Galway will front up well against a good Mayo team in the Connacht final, and may the best team on the day come through, but after that, be it quarter final or qualifiers we be exposed for the poorly prepared, naive team which unfortunetly we are, and as a Galway fan it gives me no pleasure in writing this. Galway fans would want to wake up and acknowledge that we are no where near the level of championship intensity required to give the big teams like Dublin, Cork, Kerry or Tyrone a rattle. Its o.k in the league in March, its championship time that counts.....we are miles behind as our record since 2001 clearly illustrates... To the Mayo fans! We ll sing happy birthday to ye when ye eventually, at long last, actually win the all ireland. And as for the nottingham-arsenal jibe. Ye are not arsenal. Arsenal have won a fair few premierships and fa cups the last decade while ye have in fact won nothing really. Tribesman09 (Galway) - Posts: 31 - 01/07/2009 12:45:27 328628 Link 0 |
Brendan. You are absolutely right about 8 changes needing to be made from last Sunday, and the fact that players form at Club Level should be the mechanism by which they are brought onto the Galway panel. The manager cannot see club players without going to matches. Rogan, Concannon and Reddington I agree with, but I have a big doubt about Warde, OK fielder but even less mobile than Big Barry. In the area of the field where we are most wanting, midfield, surely Michael Keane deserves a run. In the club games I have attended over the past 3 years, he has got the better of those who frequently start at 8 and 9 for the County. I do expect to see at least 6 changes for the Mayo game. Matt Clancy, however, is a crucial member of the Galway starting 15. The All-Ireland winner is the hardest worker on the team, and wins a huge amount of breaking ball, and knows where the posts are. Although ye have better forwards than Mayo it is likely that the lack of good ball supplied to them will tilt the balance slightly in Favor of the Green and Red come July 19th..... martinjoe (Mayo) - Posts: 555 - 01/07/2009 13:15:03 328689 Link 0 |
Ballinabuck - eating humble pie is hardly comparable to Armageddon. But then, I'm not crippled by a Mayo mans inferiority complex. Lordy lads, ye must be fierce desperate to win. Every year it's the same old story. Ye get a good win against a poor team and suddenly the lot of ye look south to try and tell us that ye are somehow better than us. Every year without fail. No matter that your record has a LONG way to go before you even catch up with us. Since ye last lifted Sam we've had him 6 times. And we've had Liam to visit once or twice too. So come back in, going by your current success rate, about 200 years when you can match our 6. Of course, that assumes ye win this year (I don't expect you to, but my calculations need a starting point) . festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3150 - 01/07/2009 14:22:27 328770 Link 0 |

While some players had a bad day at the office in Sligo last Sunday, I feel the management has to shoulder alot of the blame. I feel sorry, in particular, for Niall Coyne. It's not my intention to single out players for bad performances, Sometimes players just have one of those days, and it can be a cruel place to be when your representing your County and things aren't going well. It was clear to see early in the second half that Niall was in trouble, his confidence had gone and it was like his legs had gone as well. If myself and others around me in the crowd could see this then surely Liam Sammon should have seen it also. Niall should have been hauled ashore or switched rather than having to endure the torment that he did. He is a fine footballer and I hope it doesn't affect him for the rest of the championship and that he will be back to his best for Galway again soon. Ballina man - yes it's 8 years since we won Sam but thank God it's 58 years since Mayo last lifted it. Is it any wonder Mayo are so disliked by other counties on this web site? One win against Ros' and you're worldbeaters yet again. You have to laugh at someone referring to 'bitter Galway supporters', given how bitter so many Mayo people were in '98 and '01. The pity is that Ballboy wasn't the only Mayo person we've seen on here. Still I hope Mayo do get to the final in September, if only that we can all have a good laugh again afterwards. id much rather be in galway position going into the connaught final than mayo's!! maryward (Galway) - Posts: 337 - 02/07/2009 02:09:28 329512 Link 0 |
Galway weren't as bad as people are sayin against Sligo.. They blew them away in the first 15 minutes and then thought the game was won. Sligo got back into it and Galway found it difficult to get momemtum again but done enough to get over the line. Believe me Galway will be hard bet as they always are in a Connacht final especially in Pearse. The bookies have it dead even and they are seldom wrong. Thinkin of throwin a few bob on the draw. unclegerry (Mayo) - Posts: 1223 - 02/07/2009 08:39:51 329552 Link 0 |

Just reading the comments posted on galways performance and it is clear that the majority of people feel that this current bunch of players are underachieving. from watching the game the last day, there are a number of issues that sammon has to solve: at the game (Galway) - Posts: 49 - 02/07/2009 11:29:35 329687 Link 0 |
Well we're really back to the bad old days when people are counting semi appearances as a measure of success, success is winning trophies mayo can't even win connaught the last few years success is not winning semis and then being beaten in the first ten minutes of the final. sean ban Breathnach said back in 97 when mayo had contested 2 all irelands that he would have whiskers down to his toes before any connaught team but galway would win the all ireland next he was right then and the same can be said again ask any real mayo fan and see is gettin to the semi final good enough you,ll get your answer pateen (Galway) - Posts: 61 - 02/07/2009 14:21:59 329886 Link 0 |
maryward you clearly know nothing about football..aidan o shea destroyed finian hanley in the league.. niall coyne dont talk to me, vaughan had a great league..i could name 14 owhere galway could get found out..as for conor mort remember 04 or 06. He has done way more to ye than michael m. has done us.Keith Higgins will put him in his pocket as usual. Not like damian burke who all he seems to know is foul of the ball..gets a yellow card in every game and almost always gets shown up...for example sligo mayoultras100 (Mayo) - Posts: 138 - 02/07/2009 17:47:09 330195 Link 0 |
Ok Ailteoir- Lets get a few things straight...i'll try to be clear this time as you had trouble reading before. I don't know where you got the world beaters thing out of, never even mentioned mayo's prospects this year, and just for the record, can't see mayo doing anything serious in the championship this year. Also, i'd like to see your stasticts on "how mayo are disliked by so many counties on this website". I think you proved my point in your last remark by wanting to laugh at mayo in an all ireland final again....even the thought of mayo winning makes you sound a tad bitter. Best of luck BOTH teams and may best county win, end of discussion. ballinaman (Mayo) - Posts: 226 - 02/07/2009 21:51:03 330458 Link 0 |
