Rugby - biggest band wagon sport?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Anyone agree? I mean fair play to people who have support it the whole time, but there is some flaw in a person who can just take up supporting a team just because they're winning at present. Give me hurling and football any day!

very very true, myself and my father have been going to irish games for 9 or 10 years and have often had a few spare tickets and had to plead with friends to come yet nowadays were plagued with people looking for tickets who 2 years ago would have flicked over if rugby was on tv.

Total Garbage, Rugby is a fantastic sport and is light years ahead of the Gaa i'm sorry to say, as for band wagan support, you get that in every sport believe it or not

Ya thats why i said 'biggest' band wagon sport. Doesn't compare to GAA, not even a little

YES YES YES,words of truth there..did you look at the munster v leinster match in croker i say over half of the crowd were women.it sickens me the way some people wouldnt know what a rugby ball is but when the Irish are doin well they all jump on the bandwagon and go on like they were born with a rugby jersey on.

It is the toxic sport. a game for those who are mostly unable to kick a ball, legally have to put their hands between another's legs and have to throw themselves on the ground to score! But It is a good thing that there is sort of a game available for those type.

Rugby is third to GAA and soccer in my heart. But its a fantastic sport. Its galaxies ahead of the GAA and soccer in so many ways regarding rules and refs and as for support, success breeds popularity and I personally have no probs with that - call it bandwagon stuff if you want and yeh, maybe it is, but what harm does that actually do lads? And I remeber being brought to Landsdown to watch us get hockeyed by Scotland many moons ago so certainly not a bandwagon fan, but Ive no problem with its increases popularity. and to be honest RicFlair, your comment on women being there, implying that they coudnt possibly be ''real fans'' is a tad insulting for the opposite gender ya not think??

Yes mick throw out an auld example there.soccer is by far and away the biggest "bandwagon" sport there is,hence the reason why the majority of irish soccer fans follow liverpool and man utd.i have enjoyed watching rugby since it turned professional, and now i prefer it over any other sport.i love it for the guts and honesty that there is in it.yes alot more irish people like rugby now on account of the irish team and irish clubs having success.so what, ireland does not have much success when it comes to sport.whats wrong with people being proud of their countries success?

What irish clubs have had success, they are practically extinct

not so sure...lets not forget about hte good shamrock rovers 'supporters' though. when they played in tolka i lived near to it and the crowds were pathetic..now all of a sudden a bunch of over paid show ponies come to town and theyre expanding their new stadium by 300%....

i mean you can hardly have that many people who adore a game where a bald, fat man runs 2 foot into another bald fat man, everybody jumps on top, and we have it all again!! Then they might give it to someone who is a bit faster that everyone else and he is able to simply step around someone and jump on the ground....
it takes absalutely no skill...to prove my point look at the penalty shootout in the heiniken cup semi final...give any under 12 gaa player a ball and ask them to kick off a tee 20 yards from the goals you would expect them to score...
funny how all the supporters were busy when we were losing last year isnt it?

They're not clubs. the clubs take part in the AIB league which this year was won by shannon in the final against clontarf, watched incidently by 4879 spectators. your assumption that leinster and are irish clubs tends to prove the posters point somewhat. if you know of anybody involved in club rugby ask them how they think the club game is going.
