Sorry Ollie he won an Ulster in '88. Just shows the talent there is in Louth and the gap is elsewhere!

8 John McKiernan
9 Frank Fitzimmons
10 Kevin Madden
11 Pat Armstrong
12 Gerry McCann
13 Aidan Hamill
14 Gerry Armstrong
15 Andy McCailin

All from Antrim, all in my time, and without too much thought.

I could probably change about ten of them, with other Antrim players, without weakening the team.

Must be literally thousands of players who come in to this category.

Where's JP these days? He palyed with us in the 80s and was some player. Unfortunately, as things are in Louth, his talent would not be properly seen. I know he headed to the US, like so many others in the 80s.

A real nice bloke, would be interested to know where and how he is?

I would say the whole of the Louth panel 1991 - 1997. Most noteably;

Seamus, Cathal and Kevin O' Hanlon, Colin Kelly, Gerry 'flogger' Farrell (the wandering goalkeeper), Stefan White (although he has an Ulster medal), Brendan Kerins.

also,

Tony Mc Carragher, Aidan Wiseman, Danny Nugent, Benny Gaughran, Dessie Callaghan, Kevin Dawe, Matt Mc Dermott.

Yes fathermurphy, Johny Doyle did win a leinster title in 2000 and here's the link to the Kildare Nationalist's archive page to prove it.

Pay particular attention to paragraph ten about a young man with calm confidence.

Pauric Davis (Longford). I seen him play whilst I was living in Longford for a while and he was a class act.

I can't understand why "ever" & "never" seem to refer to only the last twenty years or so..
Someone from Westmeath lists Mickey Fagan but not Jobber McGrath!. I would possibly list Tommy Ring too. Both were outstanding hurlers on poor teams. As for footballers I think Mick Carley and George Keane might qualify.
I also see a lot of Antrim hurlers listed but not Kevin Armstrong! And I think Dan McInerney from Clare never won a provincial medal either.

Hi Patrique great to see you included John Rainey a much overlooked player and part of the backbone of the great Johnnies team of the 60's and 70's. We know the flair players get a mention everytime great teams are asked for but John was a superb halfback. I think he has 11 senior county football medals which is an indication of his longevity as a first class player. His brother Brendan wasn't too shabby either.

Brendan was a useful performer as well, but John? Could anyone honesty tell me that say "Ricey" with all his medals (richly deserved by the way) is a better player? Certainly not as tough as wee John LOL.

John Pat did indeed play for Louth, as well as Ulster and Leinster. And although he played for Lamh Deargh in Belfast, they had no hurling team in 1970 so my club then, Gael Uladh, "stole" him to help us win the county minor HURLING title. He played mid field for us, with me in the goal.

His mate from Lamh Deargh Barney McKenna also played. Barney went to Oz, but I see him when he visits home, as he plays guitar and sings and would have spent many a great night with us.

John Pat moved to the States. I moved to Manchester. I haven't seen him in years, and I mean years, but a great lad, and a great player.

Jobber's nephew, Kevin from Coventry originally, plays guitar with us on music nights when he is about the place. He is a pilot so we don't always see him.

He was amazed that I had heard of Jobber.
