Ok all this talk of how good Kilkenny are and they are the greatest team ever has got me thinking (Don't think they are by a long shot by the way)...have Tipperary the potential to be the greatest and in the next 6-8 years climb to the top of the roll mof honour? Ok potential has to be fulfilled but I think the new crop of Tipp players will continue developing. You already have Noel McGrath who after the league and two games in the championship is the front runner for Hurler of the Year (don't think he'll end up getting it tho), Seamus Callinan who has destroyed Ronan Curran twice and Ken Mcgrath in championship matches and throw in the likes of Padraic Maher as well you have three players U21 who already look the finished article. In 4 years or so you could have a Tipp team something like this: 1. Gerry Kennedy 2.Paddy Stapleton 3. P. Maher 4. C O'Brien 5. B. Maher 6. C. O'Mahony 7. M. Cahill 8. S. McGrath 9. N. McGrath 10. G. Ryan 11. S. Callinan 12. J. Woodlock 13. P. Bourke 14. W. Ryan 15. P. Maher Plus the likes of Corbett, Kelly and the rest of the panel are all still quite young. So maybe Tipps best years could be just around the corner.... tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 23/06/2009 17:00:32 320888 Link 0 |

They have plenty of talent around ok but you can never count your chickens before they are hatched. I seem to remember a young bloke from Ballingarry breaking on to the Tipp. scene about 10 years ago, he was hailed the new kid on the block at the time , got an All Star in his first inter county year, then hung around as a bit player for a year or two and finally faded into inter county oblivion. His name escapes me for the moment but i'm sure any Tipp guy looking in will know who I'm talking about. You can never tell the future or what talented teams might emerge from other counties you have to deal in the hear and now and the unfortunate thing for now for Tipperary and all other hurling Counties is that Kilkenny look unbeatable. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 23/06/2009 17:19:19 320918 Link 0 |
Ya you would sure all you Wexford men spend so much time loathing KK ye forget that yer own county or anyone else plays hurling anymore! tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 23/06/2009 17:20:34 320921 Link 0 |
corkcelt....you'd be talking about Liam Cahill. Fair point but he only had one good season. Your right you can't count your chickens before their hatch but you can always have hope! Personally I think KK are far from unbeatable at the minute. Many of their key players are heading towards 30 and despite general opinion they do not have a huge panel. Like any other team they can't afford to lose a huge number of players to injury. And very soon there will be no Hickey, Kavanagh, Hogan, Lyng, Comerford, Shefflin, Brennan. No team are unbeatable and I'm certain more people will come aware of that by September. Don't be surprised to see Dublin run them for at least 60 mins in Leinster tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 23/06/2009 17:32:42 320941 Link 0 |
tiobraid County: Tipperary Posts: 904 Sick of you Tipp boys harping on. You've won nothing yet. You are about as successful as Wexford in the past 10 years bar an ould NHL title. When you actually beat Kilkenny in an All-Ireland come back to me. You wouldn't have gotten near a Munster title in the past 10 years if Kilkenny were in Munster (FACT). tbf if tipp had of been in leinster this past ten years they would of done more damage than wexford or offaly put together!lets not forget tipp an now galway have run the cats close this year!so i can deffinitely see one of these two counties upseting KK. and this is coming from a football man dj27legend (Down) - Posts: 641 - 23/06/2009 20:37:18 321102 Link 0 |
wel i think tipp have talent coming up that can only be matched in kilkenny. but thats our problem in tipp, its fine winning munster minor and u 21 titles but its all irelands that matter and losing them to kilkenny every year does not help. if tipp met kilkenny in an all ireland in the morning i think it would go down to the wire like the league final maybe even a tipp win. but tipps problem every year is getting over the waterfords clares galways wexfords that they would be able to beat if they got there heads right. i think that when a team matches kilkenny you end up with great matches. the galway and tipperary games with kilkenny were brillent but i think if these two teams meet kilkenny by september they may beat them as they know now how much more i takes to beat them and i think they will be up for it. kilkenny are not unstopable. and hpoe the tipp team thinks that. sfoggy (Tipperary) - Posts: 145 - 23/06/2009 20:49:15 321115 Link 0 |

dj27legend County: Down Posts: 373 Don't forget the Dubs ran KK close this year too so I presume you should not overlook them. As for Tip being the only ones to be able to contend with KK. You haven't won the Munster final yet this year. Ye haven't even looked close to winning or getting near an All-Ireland. Clare have had a really bad season and they nearly pipped ye in the end. Where is all this superiority complex stuff coming from. Reminds me of some Tip supporters before our last championship meeting a few years ago. Was some terrible hurtful stuff from Tip supporters in relation to our beating in the Leinster final against KK and of course we beat ye off the field. Tip should just hurl and forget the dribble, maybe then they might win an All-Ireland again and beat KK. Egos don't win All-Irelands. colin if you happened to look ima down man so i dont support tipp tho i would like to see some1 break KK dominance for the good of the sport! tho i cant see this happen but ive 3 teams in mind that will run them close, tipp galway an waterford! dj27legend (Down) - Posts: 641 - 23/06/2009 22:19:38 321228 Link 0 |
Think you're getting a little excited. Kilkenny had a poor U-21 team last year and still beat Tipp in the final. CodyisGod (Kilkenny) - Posts: 20 - 23/06/2009 22:57:48 321294 Link 0 |

Long time no see tiobriad. I agree, I think Tipperary have the foundations of a very good team in the not too distant future. In fact, if any team are to beat Kilkenny this year then I think it will be Tipp. They just need to learn to play for a full seventy minutes. Against Cork and against Clare, they raced into big leads but in the final 15 or 20 minutes of each game they were hanging on by a thread. I reckon Davy Fitz will be targetting the first twenty minutes of the Munster final to make sure ye don't get the same big lead, then it will really be a test of Tipperary to see how they can cope when they haven't a big lead already built up.
