Should Roscommon quit football altogether?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

As a follow on from the topic on the Leitrim page, what are peoples opinions on quiting football for a few years and concentrating on the Junior championship. I know they won the Connaught junior recently and I'm sure that a few of the team which played on saturday would make it and might give the All Ireland a run. This way Roscommon could also concentrate on the hurling also.

Never Mind the WUMS lads you know what its like where there is summer holidays the kids have nothing else for doing. But in all fairness lads its hard not to Gloat when you beat one of your biggest Rivals, i'm sure if Roscommon had beat Mayo by that Margin we'd be getting some digs off you

If they could field a strong junior team they could go all the way and repeat the feat of the 2006 minor team. Winning two All Irelands in four years would be an incredable feat and would be a tremendous boost for Roscommon football.

When you lose a championship match by 20 points, I think it is time to give it up.

Would not be a lover of Ros football but will admit to admiring their guts over the years. Every county bar Kerry has had days like last Saturday. We in Mayo have had them in worse places for the whole country to see, i.e Croke Park 1993, 2004, 2006 to name a few. We got dogs abuse, smart comments, sneers and piles of hatred thrown at us. What did we do? The only option is to start all over again. Make no mistake Roscommon will start all over again and days like Saturday will be one of the reasons why . There is no place left. Next time out someone else will get slaughtered and us in Mayo can never tell whether it will be us or will it be the opposition. Have a brave heart and ignore the **** stirrers.

in 1993 Mayo where beaten by 20pts vrs Cork! only 3yrs later Mayo where unlucky not to win the all Ireland! in 2005 Cavan drew with tyrone (should have won) but the replay tyrone won by 20pts & went on to win the all Ireland, & only last Year Wexford didn't give up?

We may not be noted as being a stronghold of football, but neither are we noted as being a crowd that gives up. An old Garda from Swinford I know and a very astute judge of football said one time that if you could clone a footballer to have the Mayo boys skill and the Roscommon boys bottle you would have seen a lot more All Irelands coming accross the Shannon.

Roscommon may have the bottle (they keep trying) but it takes more than bottle to succeed. It would take plenty of cloning before you would have a dacent team.
