Then they were annhilated by a lithe, svelte and precociously talented Tyrone at Croke park.

Yeah! Tyrone aren't even a "big" team, yet from some quarters you'd think our players were weight-lifters or something. It's amusing how the stigma from 03 has stuck, even though it's 2009 and Tyrone have a completely different style. To be honest I think a lot of anti-Tyrone people are just trying to wind us up, because I don't see much from Tyrone these days that can be heavily criticised.

conolly, what pipe are you smoking>? Dublin and Kerry both played extremely defensive last year... And the worst of them all West-meath play in Leinster and you only have to look at mayo V Roscommon to see how uncompetitive connacht is... with the best 2/4 teams in connacht playing...

I AM NOT BEGRUDGING TYRONE. THEY ARE A BRILLIANT TEAM. THE THREAD IS "IS ULSTER FOOTBALL BORING" AND THE ANSWER IS YES IT IS. THE REASON FOR THAT IN MY OPINION IS THAT ALL THE TEAMS ARE TOO NEGATIVE IN THEIR APPROACH. ALL THE MATCHES THIS YEAR IN THAT PROVINCE BEARS THIS OUT WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ARMAGH V TYRONE IN SPELLS.

It is amazing noone seems to have noticed Kevin Hughes great fielding Penrose class points Justin Mcmahon and Conor Gormley marking Derry out of it Sean O'Neill's passes and runs as with Jordan's breaks Mugsy's bravest ever block. Boring? No jealous? Yes! Overall flow messed up and players frustrated by by poor refs YES!

Another thing
one of the top financiers said of the present crisis
A fool with a plan will beat a genius with none.
In Ulster plan and teamwork rules but as well as that we are no fools
We maximise the potential of what we have we introduce change we push the envelope and if the rest wish to continue on like a couple of Cu hallions and a rake of hounds with little or no plan but catching the odd high ball well....
back to what the financier said.

Connolly has a point and I too am a big fan of this Tyrone team and they are getting better and seem far more disciplined this year - and beardless. The thread is about Ulster football though and all I can say is every time an Ulster game comes on our dog (an avid GAA fan) goes out to the back garden - even if its lashing rain...

Question: When people on this thread say "Ulster football" Do they mean Ulster teams playing any game is boring or games in the UFSC are boring?

Ulster Football is the most competitive but has lacked any real excitement this year. Antrim v Donegal was the most exciting because the underdog won. Hopefully the Ulster Final will be exciting with Tyrone playing this year's surprise finalists Antrim or Cavan.

To me JohnSmith Ulster teams in USFC or in AISFC are no better or no worse than teams from any other province. This argument should never have started in the first place. it's the exact same argument as "Ulster Football is the Best" or "Ulster Football is a Disgrace" or "Ulster Football is the Only competitive Football". All these type of threads are Anit GAA in my view.

Ulster temas in both the USFC and All Ireland Qualifiers will be no better or no worse than any other province.

However this does not mean that it is any good as I believe most games these days in all provinces including Ulster have degenerated into confrontational battles focusing more on the confrontation rather than the talent.

Many of these games so far this year have been boring and many have had negative aspects. But as one poster said maybe this has alway been the case. For me, this year's first 10 or 15 games have been particularly bad and I honestly would rather watch a div 3 club match at home which I have always preferred anyway in teh past. Just decided this year to watch a few games on telly and I PERSONALLY, and only PERSONALLY think the standard of talent has been very very low. Maybe I'm wrong. All provinces are culpable and Ulster cannot escape criticism either. if someone started a thread on here giving out about the terrible behaviour or lack of talent in any other province then I would comment.

As it stands every post on here seems to be about Ulster. An equal amount saying how brilliant the football is as there are saying how bad it is.

The standard has certainly decreased when you see the likes of Antrim/Cavan competing for a place in the Ulster Final. Antrim competing in div 4 for the past few seasons and cavan lucky not to end up there for next year.

In fairness lads the ulster championship does seem to produce a higher percentage of boring games. Most of them are like a war of attrition, with a couple of good scores here and there. But the good scores are outweighed by the pushing and shoving that accompanies every break in play, the huge free count, which adds even more breaks for the pushing and shoving to kick off! Constant petulant behaviour which usually leads to loads of yellow cards. Its just not entertaining. e.g. tyrone and derry, arguably the best two teams in the province this year... That should have been a great game. Now compare that to the galway kilkenny match. Which one do you watch?

Your right JackL.. The standard this decade has gone downhill something serious.. When you see weak team like Tyrone who never won an all Ireland with 3 this decade already..

With the exception of Tyrone and to a lesser extent Derry, the standard of Ulster is decreasing.
Tyrone is way ahead of the rest.
Derry on their day can provide a challenge
Armagh, Monaghan and Donegal are slipping away,
Fermanagh will huff and puff but does not have what it takes.
Down are a team who is slipping fast into oblivation
Cavan is living on the glory of 97 and now have reached their level, just about safe from Div4.
Antrim are putting in the effort, their performances in the Tommy Murphy Cup testiment of that and on the brink of qualifying for an Ulster Final.

But in truth is there anyone outside Antrim and cavan looking forward to the match. Brolley and Tohill will try their best to build it up but will be left struggling. Hope Spillane is not on the show.

Well i love ulster football. I use to suffer from insomnia, but ever since ulster teams adopted the pulling and dragging style football we see today i have no problem sleeping anymore. I just tape the matches and stick them on when i go to bed. So cut ulster football some slack lads. There are some positives!

Connoly Dublin- "Ulster football is terrible"...that would have nothing of course to do with the fact that since the early 90s Ulster teams have dominated winning All Irelands and Dublin with home advantage have won it only once??? Tyrone may have created a blanket defence strategy three years ago but you fail to recognise and acknowledge their pace and skill agaisnt you guys last August, totally washing you away with forward play...not defensive play and then doing likewise with Kerry in the Final. Even as far back as 1992 when a written off Donegal team reached their first All-Ireland playing a smug and over-cocky Dublin side...they played you off the park with great attacking play via Mc Hugh, Bonner, Boyle and Manus Boyle who scored 8 points...hardly a negative defensive display. I do recall Derry attacking play doing likewise in a second half Mauling of Dublin in 1993.

Ulster football is different thats all and Im sure if Dublin, Kerry, Cork etc were dominating there would not be a whimper regarding "negative tactics"...nothing focuses the begrudgers more than getting beaten. Learn to live with it Connolly a chara and instead of looking Northward for excuses try alligning your own acute problems in Dublin and maybe lowering your expectations which results in abuse of your managers...thats your real problem. Good luck in your game with Wmeath...you'll need it.
