I have to say I'm loosing interest in the football championship (not just because Wexford are going so bad, I've always enjoyed watching the football). I looked at the Sunday game tonight but I turned it off before they turned their attention to the football. ColinWex (Wexford) - Posts: 901 - 21/06/2009 22:30:56 318771 Link 0 |
Id be inclined to agree with that list ColinWex. Getting seriously vexed with football from looking at inferior displays by counties that talk the talk in the league. Ive a feeling Ill only remember the provincial finals onwards this year and will choose to forget the rest (except of course for Laois games). In fact with Kildare decent looking and ourselves maybe capable of something if we show up in the Kildare match, Leinster could provide the best entertainment up until the provincial finals this year. But Ive a feeling this champinship wont get good until the Quarters. Serious commendations to Antrim for bucking the trend of complacency and to Tyrone, Cork and Mayo for raisning the bar early on though! spudenator (Laois) - Posts: 1052 - 21/06/2009 23:42:59 318866 Link 0 |
Football should just be banned, then we could all watch a realsport. patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 22/06/2009 00:33:02 318920 Link 0 |

People may find ulster boring or whatever, but i was looking at the draw yesterday and came to the conclusion that the teams in it that most teams would want to avoid were the ulster teams, armagh, monaghan, donegal, fermanagh and down.that says something... As regards exciting games,we are getting fewer and fewer exciting football matches, there are more boring games now than exciting games,no matter what province. enda.muldoon (Derry) - Posts: 318 - 22/06/2009 11:25:17 319127 Link 0 |
had both the pleasure and the displeasure of being in casement park yesterday. the pleasure at watching our minor hurlers dispose easily of down minor hurlers. them young men played hurling like tyrone play football. working their ***** off. an absolute pleasure to watch. then i had the misfortune to be stuck there watching THAT AWFUL GAME. it was absolute rubbish. tyrone were much the superior throughout the game. the only line they didnt dominate was their full forward line. mcguckain, sean marty and okane done brilliantly to keep the 3 boyos practically scoreless, but i suppose when the rest of the field can score the way they can it doesnt matter. just hope we dont get monaghan again in the qualifiers cause i dont think i can take much more sour grapes this year. boo hoo. pig.ignorant (Derry) - Posts: 655 - 22/06/2009 11:33:38 319147 Link 0 |
I dont see how anyone could refer to Mayo as having contributed to 'raising the bar'. I sat through their facile win over R,common and their was simply no opposition. I n relation to Ulster being mooted laughably as the weakest province I think those arguments should be set aside lads until the qalifiers are underway. I think those results will tell their own tale. gaelantrim (Antrim) - Posts: 1616 - 22/06/2009 13:08:04 319300 Link 0 |

mikeyjohn galway have a lot to learn about actually winning a game. sammon is a traditionalist like micko, catch and kick and as pit spillane says they like to put the boot into football spread it wide etc etc. but heres the reality since armagh turned football on its head in the early 90s things have changed, teams especially the like of armagh and tyrone and maybe dare i say it the dubs are very professional in their outlook, every detail is covered. galway may play attractive football but is it effective to win sam i doubt it. yesterdays match was an ugly affair they always are due to the hatred between these two teams, but i can see both being in croke park come august, as will armagh. and my guess is that galway wouldnt beat any of them. reddoctor (Tyrone) - Posts: 1241 - 22/06/2009 16:57:13 319635 Link 0 |
Reddoctor I would be very loath to refer to any GAA rivalry as 'hatred'. I attended the game as a neutral, just to run an eye over our final opposition, ahem. I think we should leave words like hatred out of our games. I witnessed good natured banter from the mixed crowd , with absolutely no requirement for segregation , unlike our soccer cousins. gaelantrim (Antrim) - Posts: 1616 - 22/06/2009 17:12:21 319650 Link 0 |
Yeah Ulster football is boring. Thank God they don't play hurling. RAM85 (Westmeath) - Posts: 978 - 22/06/2009 17:22:42 319657 Link 0 |

Have to agree with Reddoctor. Football has changed, but what I think alot of Ulster teams - Monaghan, Cavan and Fermanagh don't realise is that OK knocking the lard out the opposition might win you the game in the early rounds but in the long run it will not win you an All-Ireland. sam2008 (Tyrone) - Posts: 799 - 22/06/2009 19:42:39 319827 Link 0 |
