Was the mayo roscommon game any better???, roscommon where shocking, absolutely the most gutless performance of the championship, tyrone won the game without breaking a sweat, derry are a poor side who focus on containment and a dependence on paddy bradley which results in them losing if he fails to sparkle.. nevergiveup08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 315 - 21/06/2009 18:03:46 318443 Link 0 |
its not that there is a two tier level in ulster its that there is a two tier level in ireland. Tyrone kerry and now cork are miles ahead of everyone else. And ulster football is not very exciting but you got to be from ulster to understand why its like the way it is. THE EXTRAMAN (Donegal) - Posts: 554 - 21/06/2009 18:44:42 318492 Link 0 |

Personally I'd have to say all the football is boring. There has barely been a decent game yet. ColinWex (Wexford) - Posts: 901 - 21/06/2009 20:28:20 318614 Link 0 |
Doireegurlie - just like a lot of Derry people havent be able to get over Monaghan beating Derry in the pervious two years, thats the problem with posting your opinions on here, they can always come back and bite you in the ass. cmx (Monaghan) - Posts: 446 - 21/06/2009 20:42:17 318632 Link 0 |

But it's really competitive...........as we're always being told. no, I think all intercounty football in general is pretty bad at the moment. I'm only basing this on what evidence I've seen this year and probably over the last few years. There have been some dreadful performances and horrible matches to watch in all provinces. Besides the 3 obvious contenders and Mayo, the standard is miles behind what it has been in the past. And if we agree with this then it doesnt say much for these 4 either really because you never have to beat anyone of any substance. This could all change of course very quickly, but I doubt it. The level of dirty play by some of the teams that have been beaten causes the standard to be lowered. I mean like what team or match in the first round of the qualifiers are any of us really interested in seeing? I mean really really interested in seeing. Managers are focusing on bulking players rather than talent and it's breeding it's way into our game at all levels. Jesus a team yesterday went out and could only kick 1 point in a whole half but still managed to look like 15 Arnold Scwarzeneggers. I'm all on for making the sport as physical as possible and you don't need to be dirty or muscular to be a physicall GAA footballer. i know plenty of quick, clean, hard players. Teams can have all the bulk they want and go out and try their hardest to stop other teams scoring, but if the main aim of every single county is not to skillfully score as many points as possible first then we have a fundamental problem. Boredom. And then, eventual death of Gaelic Football. I personally dont want to watch a boring sport. Even more so if I know it could be enjoyable to watch. Back to the Ulster football championship, it has been as equally uncompetitve as any province. And just because there's competitive tight matches doesn't mean that the standard is any good. And I'm not saying it's any worse that other provinces but it is equally as bad. thykingdomcome (Kerry) - Posts: 1206 - 21/06/2009 21:11:00 318669 Link 0 |

It could be the back door Mikey. Not sure as it has worked well at times. And of course I'm thanking God for it. But take Kerry for instance. Dreadful. But the question we are asking ourselves down here is whether or not Jack is actually one bit worried. Maybe they cannot peak so early and also expect to be still fully functional come September if they make it that far. Maybe Monaghan, Derry, Armagh who would have been classed as decent enough teams earlier in the year are also not worried about winning and are targeting higher fitness levels at the right time. You asked if there is something else on their minds. I'm talking about many players from all teams here. I'd say that there is very little in their minds, tactically. And that this has been the case for particularly the younger players coming through. It's all about agression, fitness, defense and inevitably less time is being spent on the other more traditional talents such as holding onto a pass, passing the ball, kicking acurately kick long, fielding, soloing. All the things that help a player and team get SCORES. Which is what it's all about. Jesus some of these lads couldnt hold onto a ball to save their lives and half of them cant kick the bloody thing more than 40 yards. how many attempts for points have we seen drop into keepers hands so far this year. That's the worst of all. then brainless hulks passing direct to opponents. How many droppped passes, wides, over carries? PLenty of sizing up to each other, plenty of biceps, plenty of handbags butr very litttle talent. I think the championship has been brutal so far. With the exception of Kerry & Cork, Tyrone and Mayo. Galway may prove themselves next week. Eventhough we were destroyed, lacked any bounce, were tactically inept and 100% lethargicly disinterested, at least we looked like we had seen a football before. Over all though every other team has let me down and I'd have no interest in any of the outcomes of any of the matches and if we get beaten by any of the winners then fair enough, we wont have deserved to go any further. I'm convinced that will not happen though. Apologies to all other 30 teams. thykingdomcome (Kerry) - Posts: 1206 - 21/06/2009 22:01:35 318726 Link 0 |
