The hypocrisy is nauseating!

Hokey

For what, stating an opinion? At least it has stirred a debate and that is positive; maybe some will reflect on their myopic views and if so that is good. You can be a Unionist, North or South, I don't care but don't try to rewrite history and change it to suit your own narrow bigoted anti-Nationalist views. For the many fine posters from the 26 counties I am certainly NOT having a go at you JUST those who hog the limelight in the Dublin media and who seem to think they speak for ALL Southern citizens by demonizing the Northern Catholic community all the time. Shame on some Northern posters for buying into this nonsense too.

I think everyone is a bit wound up here.
May I present myself as a conundrum for you all and you may feel free to label me as you se fit it may be educational for me.

My father was born in Scotland. Iwas born in Derry. I have played Gaelic and Rugby even tried soccor. I support the Irish rugby team and support no soccor team at all. I love watching Cricket I think it is a great sport. I have never joined a political party or movement. I am a great believer that this is one country. I desire to see a united Ireland and because of that I feel that I have no option but to support Sinn Fein as they are the only party with a policy in this regard. I do not condone violence but having read the thoughts of Dom Helder Camara I believe that the bullet fired from a gun is only the end product of far greater evils that cultivated the circumstances for the gun to come to play. I am obsessed with my love for Gaelic games especially football. However i dont really know much about it . I would not think it right to call any poster anything other than Gaels or Irish. I find the terms West Brit and Nordie distasteful. I would call myself Irish What would you call me.

And Ram you are right if only by accident We "nationalists " do need to be reassured sometimes that we are not struggling in vain or alone we would like to believe that our fellow gaels and irish at least understand that you in the 26 counties take for granted that which we only hope for.

derryman an excellent posting where you have at least tried to see both sides, unlike some people on here, and in fairness there is no doubt that most Irish people would like to see a United Ireland, providing of course that it was brought about in a peaceful and agreed manner. However I do think that if this United Ireland ever did happen, a lot of people up North would get the shock of their lives at been ruled by our useless lot down here. Straight away you would pay far more for your groceries, clothes, electrical items, cars, insurance, road tax, gas, electricity the list is endless (did I leave out alcohol), believe you me while you may sit up North dreaming about a United Ireland, chances are though you would be praying for the Brits to come back after a few months of Brian Cowen rule. Maybe paying through the nose for everything is worth it in your estimation to have a United Ireland, but there is a sizeable majority in the North (including many Catholics) who would prefer to see the Brits left in charge up North.

This thread makes an interesting read if you go back to Ulstermans original post and look at the direction the thread took.

hipster based on your coach potato effort maybe the moderator did you a favour in not putting up "what you wrote" as for not knowing the first thing about history or politics, I beg to disagree.
pearseabu I agree that this thread has seriously digressed but then again almost all long running threads do.

derryman. Excellent post and I would not disagree with a word you said. If you were born in Derry then you are Irish same as I am, having been born in Cork. I love all sports and have no problem whatever with people watching or playing Cricket/Rugby etc. I feel a very strong empathy to the Nationalist population of the 6 Counties and have many friends there. What rattles my cage is reading posts from some albeit a small minority of southern "GAA Supporters" who are being deliberately cruel and antagonistic towards fellow GAA supporters from the North. Some calling them Brits and whingers when they attempt to assert their Irishness or explain their circumstances. No doubt the sensible course is to ignore those posters but I then feel by my silence I am acquiescing to their agenda. Accordingly my nature will not allow me to do anything other then to confront them.

Hear Hear Corkcelt, well said!

The irony is that Mary Mcaleese is from the 6C but would these "small minority of southern "GAA Supporters" ever confess to ROI having a 'British president?
No of course they wouldn't! Additionally, their grandparents\great grandparents would have been born in an era (pre partition) when the whole of Ire was in the UK. Would they say their grandparents and\or greatgrandparent were British? No, of course they wouldn't! The biggest irony of all is that these folk who bait Northern Nats about being British think they are taking a pro Irish stance ( IE we're Irish you're not !! ) when if you actually think about it they are taking the Pro British stance of partition which they can't even see !!

Yes, and Ireland gave England lots of people to do the jobs that British people WOULDN't do !!
Do you think there was someone at Holyhead port 'handing' Irish folk cheques for thousands of pounds and pots of cash when they stepped off the boat !!
It wasn't quite as simple as that Leroy
