horse are you referring to the definition of shoneen, or to the North American Indian bit. If its the definition there is no debate that is what a shoneen is. If its the Indian bit I have absolutely no idea, its something someone said sometime that just stuck in my memory but having read spudenator's reply his origin appears much more plausible and after having a Pow Wow with myself I am prepared to concede that whoever said it was either mistaken or taking the firewater.

He's entitled to his opinion, it's people like you who are well and free that I'd be more worried about

314933 why should we in the south pander to the you in the North?, lets call a spade a spade here most people in Ireland dont really care about what happens in Northern Ireland.

I appreciate your honesty paddy and what you say is true, most of us up here have known that for a long, long time. Begs the question really, if Ireland can ever truly be united, I mean physically you can change the lines on a map and lodge it with the UN or whatever, but if paddy is represenative of the majority of views of those south of the border, and I believe he is, then we have a real problem on our hands.

so one day you just woke up and saw the light, a road to Demascus conversion then paddy, and overnight you changed. Threw off all the suffocating burden of our history and embraced your new life as a liberated shoneen. Well good for you paddy I hope you feel fulfilled. You travel your road and I'll travel mine and never the twain shall meet, thank God.

Don't flatter yourself paddy, you dont cost me a thought, I am a genuine GAA fan, I enjoy the Hogan Stand forum, I will give my opinion wherever and whenever I want to. If you happen to be on the same thread and if you are carrying on with your usual antagonistic insulting behaviour towards my fellow Gaels in the 6 Counties I will respond.

No, Paddyogall you are not english! You are indeed Irish but definitely one of WestBrit persuasion shall we say.

West Briton (adjective West British; both often shortened to West Brit) is a pejorative term for an Irish person who is alleged by the user of the term to be excessively sympathetic to the United Kingdom or who takes his cultural and social cues from Great Britain.[1]

Paddyogall, below sound like anyone we know?...Ok, so you like Gaelic games

"West Briton" is today used by some Irish people to criticise others for a variety of perceived faults:

* taking a view of Irish history which highlights perceived positive aspects of British influence in Ireland, or criticizing Irish nationalist rebellions
* cultural cringe: following British popular culture, while appearing embarrassed by or disdainful of aspects of Irish culture, such as the Irish language or Gaelic games
*opposition or indifference to a United Ireland or militant Irish Republicanism
*Support (or alleged support) for Neo-Unionism
* Nationalist former politician Kevin Boland described the Fine Gael party as such in his 1984 book Fine Gael: British or Irish.[

So all supporters of the Fine gael party are west Britons then, wow a lot of people in ireland are west Britons then, an indifference to a united ireland, wow another large chunk of irish people are west Britons. Or i have a little theory maybe i dont pretend to be "chuckys" like yourselfs
