Am I right in saying that at the end of all this Mullan and Doherty will get away with four week bans each while Clerkin and Freeman will get eight week bans for their troubles? And the Derry people think justice has been served. One day, lads, one day.

Also, I'd love to know what role has Brolly played in this? If he has succeeded in getting his own countymen's bans reduced and a Monaghan player an eight week ban, then he should never be let onto the Sunday Game again. If I was to say what I really thought of him, it probably wouldn't be printed.

Its not Derry or Monaghan who are at fault.
Its the GAA making a fool of itself again.
Why cant they impose suspensions and stick to them.
No matter what penalty is imposed on anyone from any county it is appealed and usually reduced.
Why are the people who impose the first suspension always wrong?

No doubt Galvin and O Leary will appeal whatever suspensions they get and why wouldn't they given the present climate?

Actually you're right tom and Loyal. I got dragged into the petty comments by pure frustration. Shouldn't have. My biggest issue with all of this is how Brooly has led the agenda here from the day of the match untill here we are nearly a month later still talking about it. To be clear Loyal, Brolly was again given 10 full minutes (listen to rte.ie/drivetime sport/Thursday for the replay if you think I might be exageratting - it's 10 mins into the programme) to say about how he had used video evidence to get Doherty & Mullan's bans halved. Of course Des Cahill put him on the spot with an incisive line of questioning (NOT !). Now I will reiterate, when I left Celtic Park that day I was disappointed that Monaghan hadn't taken their chances and gotten beaten. Derry had 7 players booked and one sent off. We had to take our beating and prepare for the qualifiers. It was the campaign that has gone after that has set the agenda here. THat is what is wrong. I just want the GAA to set it's own agenda and for fairness to apply and like the rest of the country I'm bored with the ongoing fallout from this, caused fully and lead by a media campaign. Finally Brolly should never be a pundit on national TV again in my opinion given his bias and attacks on opposition teams.

The actions and reactions of certain derry are leaving a bitter taste in the mouth and I am sure i speak for more than myself here. Basically they are doing themselves no favours and i personally will be delighted when the get dumped out of the Championship - hopefully as soon as possible.

Absolutely correct Big Sacks. Also with the precedent that Derry have established in the Doherty and Mullan cases i.e. it is ok to appeal a ban if you can prove you were provoked. Every suspension that is in excess of the minimum will now automatically be challenged. The GAA have opened a can of worms and it is going to create 2 things: Its going to make the GAA a laughing stock and its going to make lawyers a lot of money - just when there are no more tribunals!

This entire thing is all very unfortunate.

I genuinely dont think doherty desreved 8 weeks. Mullan deserves everything he got and more.

But it is each counties right to stand up for their own. That is what derry done and that is what every county is entitled to do. If by doing this an incident where Dick Clerkin was seen to stamp on Dohertys face was shown (which would explain the blood on Dohertys face) then Derry do not have to take responsibility for this. Dick Clerkin and Monaghan do.

I like and respect monaghan and I believe if a song and dance hadnt been made about this on RTE then the two sets of fans would have left the ground happy after a hard hitting championship with no one getting fined or suspended.

All those who are wishing Derry are beaten by tyrone now, seriously, catch yourself on. Derry has went about their business with nothing but criticism over the past years, probably deserved. But wishing the underdog loses againt the AI champions is unreal. I know I have heard enough about Tyrone for a lifetime, all of Derry and most of Ulster will tell you this.

Cant wait to the game on Sunday. No doubt it will be another hard hitting match. Hope it osnt blown out of all proportion this time.

Monaghan posters. Doherty and Mullan got suspended. They will not be playing in this weekend s game. They used DVD evidence to show that they should have recieved the minimum rather than the maximum supension. They are entitled to use evidence in their defense as as yourselves.

There will be mighty craic the next time we meet Derry. Its a pity it has come to this. I have always supported the Ulster teams when Monaghan are out of the Championship will be making an exception this year for Derry owing to the behaviour of Messrs Brolly and Tohill.

Nobodys fault but the G.A.A.'s. They had the video of the game and the referees report for long enough. All suspensions should be handed down at the same time and the matter dealt with at that time in its entirety. The appeals process is a sham and there should be no appeal allowed for incidents which are clearly visible on video !!
