He has his good days and his bad days (most of which he spends cackling away to himself). But overall he's good value, as are Spillane and O'Rourke. Sure if we didn't have them who would we give out about on here every Monday. I like pudits I disagree with as well as those I agree with, get the blood up! Good stuff.

Tony Davis is a good analyst too, but sure sometimes the most craic in watching the Sunday Game is having a laugh at Brolly and Spillane going at it, especially if you're after sitting through some muck standard match.

He's had another needless go at Monaghan tonight on Drivetime Sport. I usually enjoy his comments and reading his columns, but ever since his comments after the Derry-Monaghan game and ever since I've lost alot of respect for him. For an apparently impartial pundit he's a joke, I understand he'll side with his county but he's incapable of talking about or pointing out their faults, while at the same time placing all the blame on Monaghan.

He is a very insightful analyst and really knows how to read a game and explain the tactics / strategies being adopted by the managers. In fact he is the only true "analyst" in the real sense of the word that RTE have on. O Rourke is next best in my opinion and I really enjoy the tension between O Rourke and Brolly who don't ever really seem to see eye to eye


However .... he (Brolly) is not at all objective when it comes to Derry matches and in fact I don't think he should be invited to cover Derry matches at all. His comments about Monaghan were actually disgraceful and totally biased ... after all it wasn't Monaghan kneeing Derry players in the goolies or kicking / tripping up their opponents.

Should be a Dublin pundit on that panel. C'mon rte we're the capital, lots of viewers, give us a pundit! Maybe the camera doesn't like us as much as spillane & co that's the only reason I can think of...

I think Brolly is probably RTE's best pundit in terms of knowledge. He was the only one on the panel to correctly predict that Tyrone would wear Kerry down in the second half of last year's All-Ireland Final, and as Martin Carney acknowledged after the game Brolly "had killed us all talking about" Tyrone's system of play all throughout last year when they were being written off. Obviously this might just amount to the fact that Joe's a wee bit obsessed with Tyrone, but I think Brolly calls it when he sees it. During Down's capitulation to Fermanagh, the rest of the panel waxed lyrical about Down's tradition and their past great players, which had nothing to do with the game. Joe was the only one to acknowledge that "they're just mediocre."

I agree Brolly is the Best of the Sunday Game panel all the spillane does is put the boot in all other counties except maybe Kerry and Cork

agree with you here brolly may be a lot of things but hes definately good value and entertaining. spillane is so negative. every game this year in the championship has been awfal according to him. "lack of basic skills michael" sounds like our A level year head. spillane is definatley better on this side of the sofa but jez lighten up pat

I think he's great and very funny at times. He can go off track a bit but you can be always sure of a laugh.
C'mon how many of us would be able to remain impartial when our own county is playing.
