How does he get a job as a pundit and should have been sacked for his comments about Monaghan. tomaoo7 (Dublin) - Posts: 5896 - 11/06/2009 21:16:43 308782 Link 0 |

He should be sacked along with pat spillane and o rourke . Dara and mc stay the best pundits about rte. Dellboypolecat (Tyrone) - Posts: 15069 - 11/06/2009 22:17:56 308864 Link 0 |
Joe Brolly is a breath of fresh air, amidst the abundance of hot air - he is contentious, whereas you are wrong naomhbrid (Antrim) - Posts: 29 - 11/06/2009 22:18:20 308865 Link 0 |
He has his good days and his bad days (most of which he spends cackling away to himself). But overall he's good value, as are Spillane and O'Rourke. Sure if we didn't have them who would we give out about on here every Monday. I like pudits I disagree with as well as those I agree with, get the blood up! Good stuff. bluboy (Dublin) - Posts: 318 - 11/06/2009 22:48:34 308914 Link 0 |
Tony Davis is a good analyst too, but sure sometimes the most craic in watching the Sunday Game is having a laugh at Brolly and Spillane going at it, especially if you're after sitting through some muck standard match. an-lu-abu (Louth) - Posts: 118 - 11/06/2009 22:53:25 308921 Link 0 |
He's had another needless go at Monaghan tonight on Drivetime Sport. I usually enjoy his comments and reading his columns, but ever since his comments after the Derry-Monaghan game and ever since I've lost alot of respect for him. For an apparently impartial pundit he's a joke, I understand he'll side with his county but he's incapable of talking about or pointing out their faults, while at the same time placing all the blame on Monaghan. mid-mon man (Monaghan) - Posts: 1680 - 11/06/2009 23:00:55 308937 Link 0 |
He is a very insightful analyst and really knows how to read a game and explain the tactics / strategies being adopted by the managers. In fact he is the only true "analyst" in the real sense of the word that RTE have on. O Rourke is next best in my opinion and I really enjoy the tension between O Rourke and Brolly who don't ever really seem to see eye to eye Beacaire Gorm (Dublin) - Posts: 597 - 11/06/2009 23:10:47 308952 Link 0 |
Brolly is hard to listen to.Never seems to make any sense and you can always see him lookin down at his notes, terrible stuff.and to think he is a barrister. fredrickwood (Roscommon) - Posts: 2871 - 11/06/2009 23:12:19 308954 Link 0 |

Should be a Dublin pundit on that panel. C'mon rte we're the capital, lots of viewers, give us a pundit! Maybe the camera doesn't like us as much as spillane & co that's the only reason I can think of... bluboy (Dublin) - Posts: 318 - 12/06/2009 00:12:35 309029 Link 0 |
I think Brolly is probably RTE's best pundit in terms of knowledge. He was the only one on the panel to correctly predict that Tyrone would wear Kerry down in the second half of last year's All-Ireland Final, and as Martin Carney acknowledged after the game Brolly "had killed us all talking about" Tyrone's system of play all throughout last year when they were being written off. Obviously this might just amount to the fact that Joe's a wee bit obsessed with Tyrone, but I think Brolly calls it when he sees it. During Down's capitulation to Fermanagh, the rest of the panel waxed lyrical about Down's tradition and their past great players, which had nothing to do with the game. Joe was the only one to acknowledge that "they're just mediocre." Gabriel. (Down) - Posts: 412 - 12/06/2009 00:21:18 309038 Link 0 |
Pundits should be controversial. Listening to Dara cinneide and McStay would send you to sleep. patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 12/06/2009 00:35:43 309058 Link 0 |

heard him also on drivetime sport that man could defend a mass murderer dont like him for his Derry bias but he can sure talk and I'm sure if we had of had him in defending Tommy we would have got the suspension reduced. seanie08 (Monaghan) - Posts: 1882 - 12/06/2009 09:15:37 309123 Link 0 |
I think he's great and very funny at times. He can go off track a bit but you can be always sure of a laugh. Yop (Wexford) - Posts: 362 - 12/06/2009 09:21:18 309126 Link 0 |
