Derry players get suspensions slashed

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

It's the system that's at fault.Players get away with murder because county boards, management back them to the hilt. All involved should hang their heads in shame.Thugs.And don't go givin me any of that "this is ulster football" crap.Thuggery.It was no representation of ulster football.Ulster football is better than that.

PearseBro, what your criticising Brolly for being good at his job? There obviously must have been sufficient evidence to have the suspensions halved.

I think all fair minded people think this decision is a disgrace and we will end up having a new society called ABD= Anybody But Derry all because the CCC and their incompetence.

i heard from a very reliable source within the cccc that it was trial by media and that the cccc did not even bother to watch the full game, instead they just used the clips of the incidents that wer highlighted by the panelists on rte on the sunday game.....what a shambles.

I actually posted here after the match wishing Derry well in the rest of their Ulster campaign. After hearing Joe Brolly last night on the radio continue his inane ramblings about Monaghan being a sinister team and Derry being Angels I now hope Tyrone humiliate them.

308550 Yop, the ban is officially for "attempting to strike", it wasn't an actual headbutt. My point is he didn't throw the head straight into McGuckin, they clashed heads which Tommy initiated. What's so funny about this, did you even see the incident? As I say, I'm not at all saying Tommy is blameless, but he doesn't deserve as much of a suspension as the other 2 lads. Instead he gets double. Extraordinary stuff altogether, you have to wonder what kind of idiots are in charge of this.

Yes I did see the incident and in fact I actually at the match. I think Freeman got what he deserved. Headbutting or attempting to headbutt is a cowardly act. Just as Mullans was.
Mcguigans 4 week ban has a lot to do with it as it sets a thing called a Precedent

Dellboy I mean read what people especially yourself have been saying in those threads and what you have been saying in this one. You really are the most inconsistent poster on this entire board and no one takes you seriously all you do is contradict yourself.

In the paper today it shows that Derry didn't get off on a technicality but got off on the merit of video evidence, so surely this should nullify and anti-Derry claims? Also the fact the Derry platers only wanted their suspensions reduced whereas Freeman wanted his quashed may be a major factor.

Well if know one listens why you and they replying now that was a very silly post you left there . And the discipline in the derry camp seems to be getting worse with another player attacking another.

With regards to the Mullen ban I am surprised as much as anyone that it was halfed. However I will not criticise as what everyone seems to fail to recognise is that there is something that we obviously dont know about this.

The mullen ban was halfed in light of new evidence, apparently bbc footage, nothing to do with precedents or anything of the source. Now this suggests to me that there is more (or less) to the incident than the rte cameras suggest. I AM NOT SAYING THIS IS THE CASE, but there is the possibility that mullen did not even connect with the monaghan player, or that he didnt connect where he made out to connect, maybe the monghan player over reacted to this. My point is that unless we know what this new evidence was we are not in a place to criticise.

As for Doherty, his 8 week ban was made up of 2 x 4 week bans. One of these was for the "kick" on dick. Derry did not appeal this.
What Derry did appeal was that the challenge on Dick for the first yellow card he got (which was later upgraded to a red) was not dangerous play warranting a red card. The CCC accepted this and thus the 4 week ban for this offence was rescinded.

As for the whole shambles I think it is all blown out of proportion. As one monaghan poster put it, it was a very enjoyable, very hard hitting championship game which inevitably boiled over at times. As for the anybody but Derry brigade, to tell you the truth I and most Derry supporters dont care what you think. Hopefully Derry can shake of some of their ghosts this year. If we cant...well thats football, theres always next year.
