think this year in Ros we are just hoping to be more competitive, after last couple of years think we would be happy with running Mayo close and then a bit of a run in the qualifiers. Have a young team so this year will be good experience for them. Looked decent against Leitrim, but Leitrim were poor, full back line for us was poor though. fredrickwood - If Mayo are feeling the pressure with Year 3 of the Pretenders rule, then all the better for the Rossies. Mayo do not have a proud record when it comes to pressure games. They'll beat anyone on the day when they come in as quiet underdogs; but once they're favourites the old Mayo curse kicks in good and strong. festinog (Galway) - Posts: 3148 - 12/06/2009 13:28:54 309403 Link 0 |
i'd fancy Mayo to win by at least 5 points. roscommon had trouble with Leitrim despite our team been turned inside out with injuries. i know Roscommon had their injuries too but ours were more important to the overall structure of the team. for instance, we lost our three first choice free takers and yet came within 4 points of roscommon. their full back line is poor and i expect Mayo to take advantage of this. Alot of new players on Ros team might affect their overall confidence. mayo have enough experience in their team not to slip on this banana skin. melvinman (Leitrim) - Posts: 171 - 12/06/2009 13:56:23 309426 Link 0 |
Mayo.rathmines..in all fairness,no matter how good he is playing with the club seamus o'se cant justify selection ahead of Parsons.Parsons has been a solid player through the league and last years championship alongside McGarrity and together they win their fair share of possesion around the middle.sticking o'se in would upset the balance. If Mickey Moran had played players in their proper positions Leitrim would have beaten Roscommon. Going on that i think Mayo with about 7 to spare. denzel (None) - Posts: 452 - 12/06/2009 16:17:11 309601 Link 0 |

The leitrim lad is spot on we are weak in the full back line and Mayo will punish us there.Surely ta god John Nolan will be moved from here,he was exposed in carrick and that was only Leitrim. fredrickwood (Roscommon) - Posts: 2871 - 13/06/2009 16:52:10 310343 Link 0 |

I believe Mayo will beat us fairly easily in Castlebar despite the fact that fergie will have his troops very fit and commited to the jersey but Im adamant given time that in year 3 of Fergie O'Donnells tenure we will be capable of mixing it with Galway and Mayo.We are far to lightweight at the moment with a very weak midfield markus (Roscommon) - Posts: 17 - 13/06/2009 21:23:15 310481 Link 0 |

Wouldn't it be gas now if Mayo got dumped out of Connaught by the Rossies and got paired with Kery in the next round. The best 2 teams in Ireland !!!!! Beacaire Gorm (Dublin) - Posts: 597 - 19/06/2009 20:57:41 317432 Link 0 |

Mayo v Roscommon was my very first Championship (Connacht final)game outside of Ulster it ended in a draw can't remember if it was 90 or 91 but was cracker of a game . I think Mayo have good reason to fear Roscommon because of the head to heads over the years. williewentwell (Tyrone) - Posts: 1712 - 19/06/2009 22:48:19 317508 Link 0 |
The thing about Roscommon is they have great Confindence wheter they are playing Galway or Mayo, or the top teams like Kerry and tyrone, thats one of the reasons to be fearful. however from talking to a few roscommon folk tonight they havent great faith in the roscommon team, a lot of young players, good players but not a lot of championship experience, and they lack a bite in the pysical aspect of the game. but there also is a bit of apathy towards to the Mayo team around paddyogall (Mayo) - Posts: 5110 - 19/06/2009 23:17:55 317536 Link 0 |
Think this could be a very one-sided affair. Mayo will barely get out of second gear and still coast to victory. It could be embarrassing for the rossies whiterbannnas (Mayo) - Posts: 2441 - 19/06/2009 23:58:14 317548 Link 0 |

Im disappointed with the attitude of roscommon hs users going into this game, fair enough mayo are favourites but a few of ye reckon the game is a lost cause before its even began.Defeatist attitude is most definately not wanted in GAA,speaking as a mayo man, both teams go into the game 15 on 15 with as much chance as each other and im sure if roscommon didnt want to play mayo, then they wouldnt have busted tooth and nail to beat a determined leitrim side.I expect a determined rossie side to turn up at castlebar with a band of followers, unfortunately for them, i have a feeling quality will prevail on the day.Mayo by 4/5 pts with the last 15 mins being the deciding factor.
